i just read the news here on the site at the bottom of the new people on the site. i am so glad that it is the works to change retarded to mental disabilities. it is long overdue. i very seldom use that saying myself for my daughter with mental challanges. at least it shows a little respect for these people because "retarded seems to have gotten to be a derogitory word. thanks for letting me vent.

Hi Grandma4. Thank you for your post, and I never use the "r" word around my son, not just out of respect for him, but because it's one of the most derogitory words that can be used about someone that may be a little different, but still has a great big heart. If I were a teacher, I'd work with special education students gladly over a classroom of 30 "regular/normal" kids.
