Haven't been here for a while... Once I figured out that my hormonal imbalance was what was making me a crazy woman, I thought I could control it... "it's just the hormones, it's just the hormones, it's just the hormones"

" hmmm.. didn't show my whole post... anyway... GYN recommended Mirena IUD for heavy bleeding, combined with low dose estrogen for mood swings. Has anyone else tried this therapy for perimenopause symptoms and, if so, how is it working for you? "

" I have the same coil and HRT patches for menopause symptoms. My periods have disappeared after years of heavy ones where I thought I might have to have a hysterectomy. I have been feeling incredibly well for the last couple of years.
The last month or so I have serious clinical depression. I've increased my anti depressants and increased my HRT dose. I also take a multi vitamin and eat lots of bananas!

Life is a battle at the moment....Not managing to go to work. "

" I have used the Mirena for 6 years. It has been great for birth control (I cannot take estrogen and was pleased this is not an abortative)but not for my peri-menopause and menopause. I still get periods. They are not as heavy as before the Mirena, but neither are they very light.. Just wanted you to know there are exceptions out there. "

" Thank you ladies, for your responses. Certainly food for thought. I've read on other boards how most women have a lot of weight gain and I think that that aspect alone really scares me. Guess I'll give it a few more months before I decide how much longer I can handle the long heavy flows. In the meantime, I've been taking Estroven and surprisingly, it seems to really help a great deal with the mood swings. I almost feel like I may have some control over my life during that especially dark week during each month. At the very least, I can remember that it is the hormones that are causing my moodiness/depression/anxiety/anger/etc. and try (tho not always successful) to keep things in perspective. "

" I had the Mirena inserted a year ago to control heavy and long periods which lead to anemia. I am 53yrs old and still have regular cycles. Since Mirena my monthly flow has been reduced to 3 days of spotting. I am very pleased with the Mirena coil. "
