Advice:
Getting used to the bad episodes

View More Posts Ignore
Hello, everyone! A lot of you already know me; I often give advice and support and say things like "Hang in there, be good to yourself, remember: it will pass, etc. etc." That's when I'm not going through a Bad Episode. I'm just getting over a particularly Bad One, and the Stable, Intelligent side of me that says all those things to other women...LEAVES. All I know is that physically, mentally, and emotionally, I feel like S**T, and I canNOT remember my own advice. So here's my question to anyone out there: how do YOU get used to going through this? I know that I have about 5 more years of menopause left, and I keep thinking that I know how to deal with the Bad Episodes until I get deep into one and, well, all goes to hell.

" Yes, I just had a bad episode myself. I started having stronger and more frequent hotflashes several weeks ago and then that episode. I was all beside myself. My husband (he's soo sweet) let me talk late at night when I was so upset and he concluded that it might be due to the hormones. I later kind of made it a rule for myself to think that if I'm having hotflashes that my moods or other odd feelings might be due to that. Then my task is not to be mean to myself and not to critizise myself, because that can very easily happen. I have no magic wand either. I think laughing also helps... I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and it helps me (I write into a journal). Oh, and talking to people seems to work really well, too, being in this group feels really good. :-)
Good luck ! "

" I have good days and bad days, like yourself. I have found that praying helps. Just a mental prayer asking God to provide what I need to make it through this episode without hurting anyone :-) "

" Hiya. I cant get used to going through this horrible process that we have to endure. I cant believe the changes that take place and just how LONG it takes.I also find there is little help apart from drugs that have side effects and herbals that really only minimise the symptoms.Who needs this nonsense ?? Women unite...we should protest !! Not that it would do much good but thats how I feel at times. I guess the only answer is 'acceptance' as that is the answer to most of lifes problems. "

" This is week two of my episodes, just started zoloft, this is very scary and horrible. I hang on because i know it will get better. I take advantage of the times I feel normal, about the last 3 hours of the day. "

" I know it's easier said than done, but I practice not dwelling on my situation, when I am able to do so. Enjoy the better days, know it bad ones don't last and last but not least, I always found it helpful to think about the poor people out there that have it a lot worse than I do. All my best. :-) "
