Sudden feelings of anxiety.

I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I am looking to find out from anyone goes through the same thing I do and what they do to control it.

Today, I felt fine all day. No anxiety whatsoever. About one hour ago, the anxiety started in my chest, stomach and legs. There was no reason for it. I was sitting on the couch talking with my husband. Nothing took place to trigger it. Also at times I am in my apartment and feel quite anxious, but the minute I go outside, the anxiety stops. So my anxiety doesn't have a "preference". I have also experienced anxiety when in stores where there are a lot of people. I have to go outside. I do have medication for anxiety but I just don't understand why it occurs when it does?

" I was also having the Heart palpitations...uneasiness...I would be fine one minute and slowly I would feel the anxiety growing...this would happen when I was in a environment that smelled musty or I noticed has quite a bit of dust...Allergies. Sometimes the panic or anxiety would come as I was waking up...I had such a sense of dread that I couldn't shake...Sleep Apnea.

I have been told by my ENT, Neurologist, Endocrinologist and Sleep Study Doc that Allergies and Sleep problems resurface at menopause because of the lack of estrogen in the system...I have a heck of a lot of answers but not many solutions that isn't dealing with medications...I would rather go natural/holistic.

My Neuro Doc told YOGA and Reflexology...would be a great place to start. I start a Yoga class next week and goign to the Reflexologist this weekend. "

" wow..seems like we all in the same sea here..also started with panic attacks...sitting watching TV suddenly heart rate up to 140, dizzy, nauseous etc etc...tried not to show it....hormone levels all "normal" but am convinced all related! Also have convinced myself that i am allergic to hair dye..since my scalp burnt a bit with a home job...am tooo scared to try again! Have visions of collapsing and dying! Saw a psychiatrist..am on meds...but found that yoga and seeing a hypnotherapist has been the most beneficial..Able to control my mind now when panic starts and have a deep relaxation CD that he gave me...wonderful!!!A good book to read are those by a Dr Brian Weiss. The unbearable sense of impending doom does not bother me so much anymore....so progress has happened. I still get it around PMS time...but am no longer frightened. So good to hear am not going completely insane! Thanks to all who share their stories! "

" Exercise! It has literally saved my sanity. What little I have left. I feel anxious quite often for no reason. I joined the Y and work out 1 1/2 hrs most mornings. Still wake up during the night w. my mind racing, but at least the days are easier. "

" ANxiety sucks! I had to go on a beta blocker to get my symptoms under control. I felt like I was coming out of my skin all the time. It has helped so much & doen't have all the side effects of the anti anxiety meds. Hang in there. Vit. D 2,000 a day helps too. "

" I have anxiety due to life circumstances but I am in perimenopause and it gets wors the week before my period, whenever that is. It has to be hormonal. I am on meds for it and dont concern myself with addiction - took Xanax doe four years after my dad did 26 years ago and eventually got off it. Whatever helps, use it. "
