Lumbar Myelogram?

Hi All,
My mother had a lumbar myelogram (spinal tap) today. After the needle was inserted, she began to seizure and had some convulsions to the point that the entire office staff had to come in to relieve her. She does not remember anything nor was she informed by the doctor and/or his staff as to what exactly happened and/or whether or not they gave her an adrenaline shot to revive her or what... She says she thinks that she passed out. All she remembers is getting the needle, then shaking and convulsing, and then waking up to the doctor and his staff shaking her and screaming her name. We are of course considering the fact that she may have had an allergic reaction to the iodine solution that they injected her with prior to insertion of the spinal tap needle. Please - anyone - everyone - if you have any more info regarding why this happened to my mother - we would appreciate it greatly. We are both afraid and unsure. Could the doctor have inserted the needle in an incorrect place that would have caused the seizure? Could something have travelled to her brain as a result of the procedure that would have caused a seizure or convulsion? Would an iodine allergy cause symptoms similar to what her reaction was like? Please help us find more info and calm our worries! Posted on 08/04/09, 10:08 pm |
