My last bout with meningitis was almost 2 years ago. It was the third. And I'm not sure if this is related, but...
2 nights ago, I was up all night with a headache. It was enough to keep me from sleeping, but not bad enough that I thought I should go to the hospital. My neck was also bothering me. I figured I'd wait until morning and if it got much worse, I'd go. When I woke up, I still had a headache, but a dull one. I figured everything was fine. Then last night the SAME thing happened! I was up pretty much all night with a headache. Not as bad as a meningitis headache (which is off the scale of 1-10), bu this probably registered a 5-6. Again, no sleep. I took a Darvocet and after a while, it finally took off the edge and I was able to drift in and out of sleep. Although I got no real sleep. Oh and my neck was bothering me all night too. Here it is, morning again. The headache is much better. Still dull, but better. And my neck is bothering me only slightly. Has this ever happened to any of you??? Is it related? I was goggling recurrent meningitis and came upon your postings. I have been having some of the same issues that you are talking about. I have had viral meningitis twice. Once in fall of 06 and the second time was in the summer of 07. But since both of those times I have had significant problems with headaches and lower back pain (from the spinal taps). I have gone to doctor after doctor trying to find answers and appropriate medications....and still struggling everyday. It seems like everyone keeps playing it off like none of this stuff is serious, and I just wish there were answers out there. As unfortunate as it is, it is comforting knowing that there is someone else out there that understands the whole situation.

I was on narcotic pain meds for years daily for my pain having had meningitis 10 plus times in the last 20 years. i'm only 28 years old and struggle daily with my pain. after choosing not to take the pain meds, I saw a pain doc. and she called me an addict! I went to the rehab place and they said I was not a canidate for rehab. They then sent me to another pain specialist and he gave me cymbalta which made me feel like I was on LSD. I'm red flagged on my chart as some kind of an addict still from the 1st doctor and my neuro doc now doesn't want to see me cause she was the prescriber to the narc. what do you do for your daily pain? I also have the mono virus in my brain & it usually pops up before I get meningitis again. if I'm too stressed or my immune system is comprimised, I get hit hard with it all. I take acyclovir 800mg 5x's daily to prevent meningitis attacks but struggle with my daily pain now. any suggestions?
