This is my first time posting in here and I just need to vent for a second. I haven’t had an attack since the beginning of March. It’s the longest I’ve gone without an attack since before I was diagnosed. Then yesterday, out of nowhere I get slammed and have to call in sick to both jobs (thank God they are understanding and I’m on FMLA). It’s so infuriating. I used to constantly be waiting to be hit with the vertigo, in these last few months I was finally able to relax and just when I let my guard down…BAM! Meniere’s smacks me in the face a reminds me I wont always know when it’s coming.

I wish it would go away. As I’m sure you all do. Sometimes its just hard not to get sad about it. I mean it’s great that its not life threatening, but seriously, it can take a toll on you.

Does it ever get any of you down?

I guess it gets me so down because I try so hard. I keep my daily sodium under 1000mg a day, I take my meds, I try to stay as stress free as possible, I stay away from caffeine, artificial sweetners, cigarettes, alcohol…what else can I do???

Thanks for letting me vent :-)

" HI, believe me we all feel the same way. Just when you think you are in a recession from this crappy disease it creeps up & bites you big time. I started taking Menrotab in January, AND I truly believe it is helping. They guarantee it 100% so if it doesn't work you get all your money back, but in my opinion, it does work. Check out their website and don't let the fact it's coming from Norway via Pakistan bother you. The highest incidence of Meniere's Disease is in Norway, must be our blondeness LOL Jacke - Let us know how you're doing. :) "

" Hi, it does undermine your confidence to get slammed after an extended attack-free period. I had intratympanic gentamicin in Jan 2009 and have been relatively symptom free since Feb.I do remain maybe 20% 'dizzy' but with exercises and conditioning I can cope with this fairly well. It's not like we used to be, but it's very tolerable. I am very active in high school sports officiating...officiating track and field and lacrosse in the spring and field hockey in the summer and fall. I was doing a high level game the other day, we had finished the first half and were getting ready to start the second half and I got slammed...the world was spinning and I needed my partner to help me get off the field. It was all I could do to stay in an upright position while seated on the sidelines. The nausea was next. Anyway, it's very disquiteing to be in a situation where 30 players, and coaches are being disappointed because of this condition. The worst part is, now I have serious doubts about going back out to do games because I don't want to put myself, my officiating partners, and teams in this dilemma again. Field hockey is an outlet for my competitive spirit, it keeps me grounded and sane...now I have issues.

I don't know what the answer is but I know I am not going to let this get the better of me. You're right, we try hard to comply with the restrictions we have and we still don't have any assurances...and unfortunately, not many people have ever heard of this condition and indeed not many people cut us much slack or show any kind of consideration. If they knew the energy it requires to stay on top of this they might...but...

Thanks for letting me vent...I'm very frustrated right now. "

" Yes Menieres can get you down at times. Especially when you can go months in between before you have your veritgo attacks. You cant live your life waiting for a vertigo attack too happen. If it happens it happens. Im not saying it was fun when my attacks came. My new ENT gave me 3 injections of Gentamicin into my inner ear. And so far i still deal with problems here and there. I like my new ENT becasue he has been honest with in saying he wont gaurantee me anything about certain things. He told me that any Dr who will guarantee any treatment for Menieres Disease is being irresponsible. He told me that if things flair up again he start Gentamicin injections again.

So "Toozler" yes i know Menieres can get you down. But Like i said above you cant just let Menieres dictate how you run your life. I know its easier said then done. "

" I haven't had a bad attack in quite some time. In fact, I can't remember when I had the last. But, one of my big triggers is a lot of changes in the barometric pressure. And, this year has been quite bad for me, especially the last few months. I think we've had more cloudy and/or rainy days than clear days. Normally by the end of the day I'm fighting to stay upright.

Oh, and I'm not Norwegian, nor blond,so that doesn't explain it for me.

Toozler, it's not always easy to stay positive. I was in a car accident 11 years ago, so on top of my meniere's, I also have problems from that. And, there are days when it just doesn't seem fair. But, the best thing I've found to do is to not think about tomorrow. I live day by day, sometimes hour by hour. I never know when or if I'll have a severe attack again. And, if I dwell on that possibility, I'd go nuts. So, I enjoy what I can when I can.

Jacke P, is that your horse? If so, I'd love to know more about him/her, breed, age, etc. "
