I havent posted on here for about a year....but thought i would come in here and give you an update on what has happened since i was last here. I made the decision to go ahead with the vestibular nerve section operation last year and had that done on the 30th september 2007. Well its the best decision i have ever made as i have been vertigo free for the whole of that time.
The recovery was fairly slow. it took me about 7 weeks before i could drive and then another couple of months to feel really confident in everyday tasks....but now a year later im a new person and have my life back...after the torture that menieres put me through.
Well if anyone needs to ask me anything about the op feel free and will try to get back in here soon and answer them

regards
Nicole

" Nicole,

Now that you've had the surgery, do you still have to stay on a low salt diet? Can you drink or eat stuff with caffeine? What effect did it leave on your hearing in the effected ear?

Great News!

" hi there karenanneb. No i didnt try gentamicin before the op as my dr suggested that it wasn't the right thing for me as im only in my 30's and the risk is high for complete loss of hearing. I did however have 3 grommets placed at different times and i also had the endolymphatic sac decompression. I also took fulid tablets and serc.

Hi maureen,
I do still have de-caffinated coffee and coke but i used to drink them before anyway....and im used to them so i havent changed. I dont really watch my salt intake now i must admit.
My hearing was not affected anymore by having the surgery. I have about 20% hearing in my right ear and normal in my left.

I hope i have answered both you questions

" I had the surgery in dec of 04, the ringing went away, and my hearing has returned! my doc was really surprised how much hearing i got back! It is a nasty surgery to recover from, but almost 5 years later, i wouldnt trade it for the world! no more attacks! if i get sick or hurting really bad i will have an occasional attack, but can totally deal with it!
