Hi all, I'm new to the group and for my first post, I thought I'd share my path with MD and where I am now - a place of general stability. By the way, thanks for reading and being supportive. This looks like a great group of people.

A year ago (yesterday was the anniversary actually), I woke up to a spinning bedroom. Like I'd taken 10 shots of tequila. No warning signs, no sickness nothing. Just a bolt of major vertigo out of the blue. Spent the day on the floor of the bathroom. Probably vomited 20 times.

The next day I got a prescription for Meclizine that just put me in bed. No more spinning, but vertigo has no effect when you're dead asleep. I had to work the next day, so I prayed I'd be OK.

The entire next week was fine although I felt dizzy here and there. Also noticed a ringning in my right ear. Faint but there.

Two weeks later I had another vomit day. Horrible vertigo, couldn't lift my head without running to the bathroom. The next day I was fine again. The ringing had become louder. Noticed some hearing loss also. That was it for me. In a year I've only had two attacks and they were relatively close together.

So in the last year I've seen three doctors (Family, ENT and Audiologist). Given all their input, I've become a new member of the Meniere's club.

I've had an MRI (clear), a round of steriods (no affect) and taken every diuretic, supplement, vitamin and herbal remedy known to man. Nothing has made any difference.

The hearing loss had become so bad, I was fitted for a hearing aid on Friday. A little humbling for sure, but the tinnitus is much better and I can actually hear pretty well on my right side for the first time in a year. I think my wife is more excited than I am... somehow I was missing all her instructions!

So, thanks for your comments and suggestions. I joined the group because I know this journey isn't over. The hearing aid is probably only a bandage on the larger problem that doesn't appear going away.

By the way, I'm 38, a father of 3 and husband of 1. Thanks again for being here and blessings to you.

PS - I've become a runner. Since February, I run about 10 miles a week and I firmly believe the activity has improved my dizziness; corrected whatever inner ear thing that caused the outbreaks of vertigo.

" Nice to hear your story... I'm 44 and am still in the early part of diagnosis...they are not sure if I just have a bad case of labrynthitis or if it is the beginning of meniers....I had an attack about 4 years ago where I was vacuuming and suddenly the room dumped upside down... I did not get sick but I had to lay down and I thought I was going to faint... It passed fairly quickly... I was a little dizzy off and on for a week then it was totally gone.... Until May 19... Over four years later... I had a huge attack and 8 weeks later I am still struggling.... It is not going away nicely like before...I am now at the point where I am going for a balance and hearing test and an MRI...they are all scheduled for next week....I am also just coming off of a strong dose of steroids....I am feeling very weak and tired with no energy... Did you remember feeling that way when you were coming off the steroids... It feels worse then just being dizzy...! I have not had any big attacks for about a month now so I'm hoping the worst is over! Good luck to you and glad to hear you're still staying active... I am an avid workout person as well and go to the gym as much as possible... However this has definitely interrupted that schedule.... Although I try and push myself to go when I'm feeling ok... The exercise does help make me feel better too! "

" The steroids were by mouth. I did 7 days and it was miserable. The typical stuff; grumpy, hungry, sweating... no fun. On top of that there was no change in the symptoms. The doc then suggested a steroid injection behind the eardrum. I said it was only about 25% effective, and even then would only provide a slight improvement in hearing. I opted not to do it.

So, really if there was a difference in our cases, I'm dealing more with hearing loss and tinnitus than regular vertigo attacks, which sounds like your main issue. I still have dizziness, but nothing like you describe.

One thing I've noticed about MD in my reading is that while the symptoms are a constant, they seem to vary enough to be a unique experience for every individual. "

" Welcome to the Roller Coaster Ride of MD.! Hope the hearing aid works for you. I have not chosen that route as of yet, because my hearing goes from ok, to bad, to worse..... and the cycle repeats.
Was told I would benefit from one, but would probably have to have it adjusted weekly. And that would be a hour one way to have that done, so needless to say I am not at that point yet. Good luck to you. "
