Advice:
Does anyone have a BAHA implant?

I have lost all the hearing in my right ear due to my meniere's. It is a major problem since I teach music and have 2 young children at home. My doctor recommended the BAHA implant and I want to know what other people have to say about it. I feel like I miss out on so much. I have tried everything else and since my hearing has gotten so much worse I am no longer able to have a hearing aid. I'm fed up with missing so much especially with my kids. I constantly have to have them repeat themselves.

" I can't advice you on the BAHA implant, but I just wanted to let you know that if you go with the implant, let me know. I substitute teach and it is so frustrating when I can't hear what the students or adults are trying to tell me. I have lost a lot of my hearing in my left ear and rely on a hearing aid that does not always help because of the Menieres.

I wish you the best.

" Hello, I am in your same situation, hearing in my left ear has gradually decreased over the years due to Meniere's for 30+ years (no longer a good candidate for traditional hearing aid(s) because I'm completely deaf in left ear). I'm scheduled for BAHA implant surgery in December 2009. Really looking forward to it; I tested it out in my doctor's office and was amazed at the instantaneous difference/improvement in hearing. I'm a teacher, too, and have been completely frustrated with hearing loss. I'll let you know how it goes. Best of luck to you. "

" ask your ENT guy to let you watch a DVD on a Baha. I have lost my hearing in my right ear, and moderate hearing loss in my left. I was terrified to even think about a BAHA but after watching the informational material that my Doctor gave me i'm now very interested and not at all afraid of the surgery. At the moment I have just started using the Meniete Device and am anxious to know if that will help with all the awful symptoms of Meniere's. If I can get the foggy, dizziness, vertigo under control it's BAHA for me. "
