I have been diagnosed with Meniere's since November of last year. The Vertigo attack were every other month or so. In the past two weeks I have had four bad attacks. It feels like I'm on a boat all the time. No changes in diet. ( low sodium )No changes in Meds. ( Beta-Histine, Lipo-Flavnoid, Maxzide.
Is this common ? Will it go back to every once in a while ? Is it getting worse ?

" Mine started the same way and then it was severe attacks 3-4 times a week to where I could not go to work sometimes. I was prescribed 2 mg vallium for the attacks and that did help but made me very tired.

I finally went to see a chiropractor/alternative medicine doctor after dealing with the bad attacks for 8 months. She has gotten me to where I have not had a serious attack for 2 months. I do recommend seeing this type of doctor. She has done craniosacrotherapy, spinal adjustment and chinese herb supplements. Another member here has recommended cocculus indicus 30C which is a homeopathic med that you can get at the vitamin shoppe. I take this if feeling lightheaded or unsteady and it does help. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. "

" I'm sorry to hear that your attacks are flaring up again. I went for seven months with no attacks and they started up again.
I don't know if you already exercise, but that has surely helped. It's been two weeks since my last attack and the exercise, no caffeine, and low salt diet are working.
Hope you feel better. "

" I was the same, except for me the few couple of years I only had attacks every month or so; then it changed to several a week and feeling somewhat unsteady all the time (walking into things).

I tried no caffeine - no effect. No alcohol - same, still having the problem. I was already low salt.

After about 6 weeks like this I went back to my ENT. He put me on dyazide. This was in 2004.

Since then I have been almost normal. No severe or long-lasting attacks anymore. The feeling of unsteadiness is gone. I occasionally will have little spins that last a few seconds but that is it. So, now I take dyazide every day without fail.

In general I think the symptoms can change with time and not necessarily for the worse. My initial tinnitus seems to have leveled off, my hearing in that ear is worse, the fullness feeling never happens anymore although in the first year or so it was very noticeable. "

" It's becoming common knowledge that Meniere's is caused by a viral infection and can be cured in 85%~90% of cases by taking Valtrex 1000mg three times a day or Zovirex 800mg five times a day for 4~6 weeks. These drugs are not even mentioned by most ENTs could lead many a reader to consider drastic, ineffective and irreversible surgical management which is still being pushed bymany lagging doctors. See Sources I have added:

"Effectiveness of Acyclovir on Meniere's Syndrome III Observation of Clinical Symptoms in 301 cases," Mitsuo Shichinohe, M.D., Ph.D., The Sapporo Medical Journal, Vol. 68, No. 4-6, Cases of 301 MD patients treated with antiviral meds The results were: In 82.5% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Disease, 85% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Syndrome, and 89.1% of cases diagnosed as vestibular dysfunction, vertigo disappeared, and tinnitus and hearing were improved.

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Massachusetts Medical School,
Morphological and clinical evidence supports a viral neuropathy in Ménière's disease (MD). Quantitative examination with transmission electron microscopy of vestibular ganglion cells excised from a patient with MD revealed viral particles enclosed in transport vesicles. Antiviral treatment controlled vertigo in 32 of 35 patients with MD (91%). PMID: 19142031 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] "

" In reply to poster #7...how would Meniere's be cured by a drug used to keep herpes in check? I find that extremely hard to believe. "
