why when you add a topic in a DS support group, it automatically sets it to 'watch topic,' but when you add a topic in a sub group, it doesn't?

never noticed before, but you are correct. Why? 'cause it was engineered that way. Probably a lack of 'standards and procedures' in engineering.

Yes I noticed that as I have forgotten to remove the tick at times and ended up with a box of emails the next day.
One reason might be that the boards were set up from the very start of the site and the groups were brought in much later (March 2008 from memory) and it would have probably been different programmers working on things by them The feature I would like to see added to the groups is the "Most Recent Reply" which is on the boards but not in the groups. Same thing - different programmers?

Subgroups were added on at a later date, probably by another programmer.
