Chat Opt Out Option

We have talked about this before, but no changes yet and I'd like to make sure this is at the top of their list for fixing.

Currently we only have the option to chat with everyone or with friends....we need the option to turn it off altogether.

I know you can turn it off AFTER it logs you in, but you could already have chat requests or forget to shut it off. When you are writing messages or posts it gets extremely annoying.

Plz give us the option to shut it off!

" Yep, .. signs in automatically, then you have to sign out. Should be the other way around. In fact, should be they get rid of the %$@ thing altogether for a decent chat service.

AND, if signed out, advertisements continue to display on the left end of the IMPOSING CHAT BAR.

but, don't hold your breath on either. "

" Maybe it would help if you contacted meebo directly. It could be that meebo isn't getting our feedback from DS. I know they have just done an upgrade and they have been promptly replied to my concerns and even updated me w/o my asking.

Here's their support contact link:

And, I also found this contact info:

" MTC that is a great idea.
I use FF and have it turned off with NoScripts - but can turn it on when I want it - rare. I found on the odd times I did do that to chat with someone I would be swamped with others wanting to talk as they just ignored the busy or not available sign - either that or it wasn't working.
Now I leave it in it's locked box......... gives me more space on the page and less ads.

Vet - now THAT I would really vote for - something like the old one we had which we could choose to have or choose not to have open.
With today's technology it should be really quite easy - so what is the deal here? Maybe there is something we don't know about - Like is meebo tied in with DS and HSW - whichever country you like to pick. "

" Wow, thanks folks...great ideas!
Naturally, I went with the quickest....downloaded that no scripts plugin, since I do use Firefox...and it's terrific!
It also got rid of that new annoying add in the lower left.
Many thx, Hathani and all! I hope everyone sees this to spread the word around. "

" Yeah, . it's hard for me to believe a chat 'feature' that doesn't allow for group chats, web cam, voice chat ... like Yahoo Instant Messenger. The OLD DS chat did. This Meebo thing was a huge step backwards. Only thing I can think of is it is a matter of bandwidth .. DS did not want to use that much of it. "

" Unfortunately with having satellite broadband we can't use web cam or voice chat as the delay is just too great. Pity as I now have a webcam in my computer.

Glad that you have got NoScripts now Bobbi - TekJoe suggested that in a post some time back and I have found it the best thing and together with AdBlock it really does make life a lot "cleaner" on web pages and sites. And getting rid of the bottom meebo bar when not wanted is just such a help when scrolling on posts too. "
