My job which i retired from gave us 10 years of health care up to 9000 a year. I am single and it has not cost me anything for health care for those years. I am 65 as of april and I signed up for Medicare part A but kept my other insurance from my job instead of B because it goes to June of 2013.
Will I suffer a penalty for not taking part B? Would someone please help me on this issue

" no,no penelty when you have coverage. When you are not covered you get a letter with the last day of coverage, so you make sure you are covered the next day. You are penalized if you go w/o perscription coverage, or if you do not pick a supplement while on part A only but this does not affect you because you have alternative coverage.. This is as I understand it from experience from friends in your position. "

" I know you made this post 2 years ago, but in case you still need help. Here is the rule from Medicare regarding retiree insurance. You can sign up for Part B without penalty anytime you have health coverage based on current employment. COBRA and retiree health coverage don't count as current employer coverage. If you don't sign up for Part B when you're first eligible, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Medicare. Your monthly premium for Part B may go up 10% for each full 12-month period that you could have had Part B, but didn't sign up for it. I suggest you contact Medicare or your state SHIP for advise.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.
