Mysterious Issues

I am posting this in a few different groups because I have no idea what is going on! For the past week my eyes have felt like they are darting back and forth quickly from side to side, with no vision issues. I also feel as if my brain is doing the same thing. And most of the time when these things happen I hear a whooshing sound (like when your window is open while driving on the freeway and a car passes you quickly!) I have also been violently dry heaving to the point where I see bright white flashes of light with some vomiting. The dry heaving and vomiting have been happening randomly for about 3-4 weeks I have been to the hospital 2x for it and I have even had my gallbladder removed, but that didn’t help! Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have a clue what could be going on with me? I will be calling my doctor for an appointment but since she diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Margarines, & IBS she usually seems overwhelmed with any new symptoms and refers me to a random specialist! And before you ask yes I am looking for a new doctor! Thanks in advance!

" these symptoms sound like a severe migraine. i used to get migraines that would sometimes last for weeks. initially i'd get severe nausea and experience strange auditory and visual effects, similar to what you are describing, and a feeling of great presure building in my head. this would last about a week and a half then *BAM* i'd get this incredibly debilitating headache along with all the other symptoms i was already experiencing plus vomiting and diarrhoea. my migraines got progressively worse until my gynaecologist told me i was at risk of stroking and being scared shitless i chucked my contraceptives in the trash. i've had 2 migraines since (stopped taking the pill nearly 3 years ago) which were due to a neck injury. i know how frustrating it is when doctors just stab around in the dark. i hope you get the answers you are looking for, good luck :) "

" the incidence of lyme disease in ohio is statistically very low compared to the other states. 0.3 cases per 100 000 people in 2007. just something to consider..... "

" I'd say you need a full neurological workup. It could be anything from medications to a brain lesion. Also, these kind of symptoms I think could be related to vertigo. Good luck! "

" Hi,

My wife has been hard of hearing all her life and works in support groups for many people with hearing and/or balance issues.

Her thought that would be the best for you is that the balance, and likely the eyes darting, may be the result of a fistula on a semicircular canal. The fistula is essentially a fluid leak, causing the body to feel as if it is moving, spinning, etc. It requires a very good ENT to diagnose this, and a good surgeon to do the repair without causing permanent problems.

Fistulas are often the result of noise trauma - sudden loud nearby noises that create so much pressure in the inner ear that it just creates a blow-out. The same level of noise also frequently causes ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Tinnitus is generally not reversible (altho it can get better over time as the brain learns to deal with the lack of input from hair cells for certain frequencies - the brain interprets this as a constant ringing (sometimes only one frequency, so-called "pure tone" T; sometimes multiple freqs [real nasty if they are dissonant tones] and sometimes a roaring, pulsing or other uneven sound).

The good news is that there are some new, effective treatments for T. The best seems to be a hearing aid-like device that continually provides soft sound (i.e. music), providing the brain enough input that it doesn't have to make up the sounds of tinnitus. This can be combined with a hearing aid if one is needed.

One other cause of the balance and tinnitus may be Meineire's disease (not sure of spelling). This is something that docs don't know the cause of, and have only symptomatic treatment for. But it is also common enough that one of your docs should have likely already suggested it. Meineire's can be progressive, or remitting-relapsing (cyclic).

Good luck, and i hope that it turns out to be a fistula that you can get treated.

" Some of the medicines I've taken for fm cause me to have nystigmus (sp?) especially neurontin
Sounds like you have a lot of the same symptoms I do... I have been dx all the same things but still don't know what's going on.
Let me know if you figure it out
Good luck with the dr, remember it's their job if nothing else to look at your symptoms... Don't feel bad. And you never know maybe you now have the symptom that ties it all together "

" is a 'random' specialist like Dr House? find out mystery as patient dies and does impossible save?

Your symptoms sound like what my IM doc calls 'migraines' but they are constant and not single sided. I take seizure med for it. Lots of vertigo attacks included and jail time for trying to go to appointments. Kaiser decided I am intoxicated or trying to get attention. I had a concussion to start it and you mention no trauma.

My daughter found a Dx on the internet and took us to outside Neurologist for confirmation. "
