Lots of things are good in moderation. When MJ started being a negative in my life, it was only when I was abusing it. I havn't smoked for 2 months. My state allows medical mj. There are weed stores all over. And some 24 hours a day. You just go in and pick what you want. I think just like prescrition pills, a physician doesnt have total control of what you do in your own home. At the end of the day, the control lies in the hands of the user. And I learned if I smoke again, I can only do it once in a while.

I think once someone shows addictive tendencies care must be taken when using or prescribing substances that are intoxicating, and there isn't much concern or reserach with this in the medical industry. What I learned is that my alcoholism and addiction can only be arrested by abstinance - the illusion of control is just that - an illusion. Sure, there were times I could "control" my use, but for the most part this was not my pattern. I was highly out of control in my weed use for years! I have used abstinance and a 12 step program to be clean and sober a few years now, and I don't miss it. I wouldn't want to use like a "normie" I've had enough! There are plenty of natural highs out there, life is full of them, and I didn't get to experience those when I was high all the time.
I think just because it's legal doesn't mean it's safe. I don't know if you are aware of how many people die as the result of pharmaceutical drugs each year, there are so many, and no one is responsible. I don't think the FDA is out to heal, but to profit, and they buy into peoples addictive tendencies to get them hooked. My opinion.

Exactly! In my work as a substance abuse counselor, I am seeing more and more people addicted to prescription medication, Oxycontin in particular. Just because it's legal does not make it safe for someone to take it in order to get high and eventually become addicted to. MJ is the same way. Some people might very well be able to use it for pain management and only as prescribed, but those of us here for addiction support found that we could not control our use. Also ... misshopeful, please be careful feeling that "the control lies in the hands of the user" as this is not true for addicts. We lose control when we try to only "do it once in a while" and that is why we have decided we need to abstain from using MJ.
