I started smoking roughly about 7 months ago... I have been so mentally addicted to it since. I will get really bad cravings where I just feel like I need to be high. Also when things aren't going well I will use it as an escape, which isn't good. I had to pass a drug test and I still wouldn't stop, I put my body through hell just trying to clean my system, I was taking a whole bunch of substances to trying and clean my system and I got really sick.. once I passed my test I went right back to smoking again. I don't know what to do. I can tell that it is affecting the way that I think and the decisions I make, it is taking all my money and I just don't know what to do.. I am afraid that if I go to drug rehab I will just end up meeting more people that have access to it and I know that would not be good for me. I was just wondering if anyone has tips as to what to do when they start craving bad.. like is there anything that works in trying to stop the cravings?

The Lord always gives you an alternative to temptation. Learn to look for those opportunities. Also, make some new friends who don't smoke weed, or hang out with old friends who know you're trying to quit and are supportive. The more time you spend with them, or out doing things that keep you entertained and busy away from weed is all the more time you are not smoking it. Every time you want to smoke, try to do something els. Go check and sort your mail, go hang with sober friends, go to church, walk your dog, go shopping, whatever. Just keep as busy as you can for a while, and hopefully the desire will go away. Have you asked God to take the desire from your heart? Have you asked for his help ion dealing with your cravings? Everything's easier when you have God's help, you just have to ask. Good luck, Oriordan! You'll be in my prayers!

The first 3 days are the hardest.
After that take it one day at a time. You can quit, it's up to you. If you need to just try to taper off. Only smoke once a day then the quit will be easier.

As far as addictive cravings, the marijuana anonymous program also uses the Alcoholics Anonymous book, which helps us understand that when we take the substance, it triggers cravings.
There is an allergy of the body An obsession of the mind And the phenomenon of craving Keeping the substance out of our body can stop this, and using a 12 step program can help you use a spiritual program to fill the hole that you are trying to feed with pot. Using the 12 steps of MA and AA have kept me clean and sober for a few years now, and I no longer have those insatiable cravings I lived with for years, that no amount of smoking could quench! I know how it feels.

First, I'm not sure how to stop the cravings but I have had luck in not succumbing to them. Wanting a break from overwhelming feeling and situations is normal and letting yourself take a break is healthy. I recommend replacing pot with a healthier escape. However, based on how dependent you seem to be on pot, I wouldn't advise you to quit all at once. I agree with joemm. Try quitting gradually. If smoking isn't going to interrupt your responsibilities then try a different escape.
Second, I am not religious but some people do well when answering to some kind of higher power. I agree with arohrssen. If you have belief in something try strengthening your faith instead of smoking. Third, I am a huge proponent of counseling or therapy. I recommend a social worker who you can work with to form a plan for recovery. As you said, rehab could make things worse and I agree but I think you're on the right track in wanting professional help. Good luck with whatever you decide. : )

You cannot stop the cravings so much as learning to ignore them. Try doing other things when the desire hits. There is a theory that a craving lasts 5 minutes at the most. Keep yourself busy for those 5 minutes and the desire to smoke will pass.

for me singing, dancing, pranayama, yoga, meditation, and being with nature are all good alternatives because they give me a "natural high" that feels cleaner, brighter, and clearer than weed's high, plus it's free and long-lasting :)
