Just trying to find answers on how to deal with withdrawls please ?
As an addict i have more than just one addiction, Im slowly starting to learn more about my others and take controll of them BUT.. This is still an addiction that wants to try and controll me. Then resulting in myself becoming lazy, narssistic and not wanting to carry on cleaning up my others. I will admit that during these times i do feel weaker than my addictions and i just want to use. But i havn't as yet and thats the main thing. Is there any answers from others in here or whomever might read this post please ? I would like to start and try to controll my life and NOT let my addictions controll me. Posted on 06/27/09, 02:06 am |

As a pot head/alcoholic...and on day 10 with no weed and 16 months a 1 day with out booze...I understand about withdrawal. The last time I quit weed, back in Nov. I had horrible nightmares and night sweats. But I got through it and was able to go 2 1/2 months.
This time...I had angry dreams and night sweats for a few days, then they passed. I just told myself that my body was kind of throwing a fit and was BEGGING for the weed, but I also told myself that weed was NOT an option and this too shall pass. Try and deal with the symptoms as they come...night sweats...take a cool shower and go back to bed. Nightmares...get up, watch cartoons or read something peaceful. But just remember...it will get better. I promise.

I had to give myself permission to smoke and then I no longer wanted to. Strange, I know. My therapist worked with me on this one. For several weeks, I gave myself permission. Everytime I smoked I told myself "It's okay, I might need this." Eventually I started to see that it was not something that was helping. I was always tired, my lungs were sore, and I longed for clarity of mind.
It was like I was addicted to the shame more than the weed. As for withdrawal, I took Wellbutrin for a couple weeks. I knew I needed something and it did the trick. I know it's not for everyone but it did work for me. It's commonly used for nicotine addicts. Be gentle with yourself.

Woah. I missed the part where you said you had already quit so my advice isn't very good. Sorry about that. I should have read closer.
I guess keeping in mind that the withdrawal will go away helps. It really will! You'll find yourself thinking more clearly and you'll find your energy level go up. What if you took a supplement to replace the habit? Fish oil is a good one. So is vitamin B6. Sort of trick the brain into knowing you are still taking something to alleviate any anxiety. Sorry for the misinformation. Keep us posted as to how you are doing.

At the beginning when I quit I wrote down the reasons why I wanted to quit.I kept them in my purse so I would have them wherever I went. It definetly helped remind me of why I quit in the first place. I was a very heavy smoker for 24 yrs(maybe more)I quit 6 months ago...the first 3 months I would have to say were the worst. I'm doing absolutley great now..I dont even want the crap...cant believe it took me so long to realize what it was doing to my life..I'm so glad I realize now though. Hang in there..you'll be reallyyyyy happy with your accomplishment..:)

Try not to focus on it. Focus instead on positive things in your life and find some feel good activities to do. Walking, dancing, reading, writing, eating, playing on the internet, visiting with friends, spending time with a pet, going swimming, visiting a museum or other fun spot that you enjoy ... spoil and pamper yourself.

there is an excellent detox pamphlet at www.marijuana-anonymous.org
I had vivid dreams and night sweats, but I wouldn't say I was miserable - I thought it therapeutic, but for me the moodiness lasted a lot longer...
