How do I know if I suffer from an unhealthy addiction? I think I may have several, and I don't know where to start? I need some help, please! Thanks!

Sara, there was a post on here a few weeks back that had a list of questions to ask yourself. I've looked for it, but can't find it, and hope whoever posted it might come back and help you out here. Basically, is it affecting your life?, do you do it alone? that sort of thing. Be patient, I'm sure someone with some knowledge and a slightly more ordered approach than I have :) will reply to you shortly. I suspect tho, that if you think you may have several unhealthy addictions, than you probably do. All the best to you.

When I first reached out for help, I realized I too have many addictions. I think in order to deal with any of our issues, getting clean and sober is our priority - I have found being clean and sober allows me to deal with my other issues! I use AA, Marijuana Anonymous and Al Anon currently on a regular basis and my life is a lot better than the years I spent high every day all day and drinking in the bar where I worked, and trying to fix other alcoholics/ addicts in my life.
http://www.marijuana-anonymous.org... 12 Questions 1 Has smoking pot stopped being fun? 2 Do you ever get high alone? 3 Is it hard for you to imagine a life without marijuana? 4 Do you find that your friends are determined by your marijuana use? 5 Do you smoke marijuana to avoid dealing with your problems? 6 Do you smoke pot to cope with your feelings? 7 Does your marijuana use let you live in a privately defined world? 8 Have you ever failed to keep promises you made about cutting down or controlling your dope smoking? 9 Has your use of marijuana caused problems with memory, concentration, or motivation? 10 When your stash is nearly empty, do you feel anxious or worried about how to get more? 11 Do you plan your life around your marijuana use? 12 Have friends or relatives ever complained that your pot smoking is damaging your relationship with them? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may have a problem with marijuana

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought of MA's 12 questions as a response to this post!

Good questions.
A simple method of figuring out if you are dependent is to ask - Has my tolerance increased to where I need more and more to get the same effect? When I do not use (or smoke in this case) do I suffer feelings of withdrawal? This could range from mild discomfort to full out miserable torment. If you are honest and answer yes to these questions ... guess what????

Some good posts and correct too.. If your smoking has made your life or activites in your life unmanage you have a problem. When you don't just "want it" anymore, but now "need it" guess what.... Get involved with a local support group, find a sponsor, someone who has had a similar problem but is on the road to recovery and change people, places and things that relate to your smoking. Wish you the best!
