Advice:
My son needs to quit smoking!

Are there any recovering smokers who could help me help my son realize he needs to quit smoking pot? We know that he has to want to quit, but can anyone offer suggestions as to how to speed up that realization? We're strong Christians, so I would especially like to hear from someone who has relied on their faith to get them through the struggles. I feel like if I could hear from someone who can completely understand my son's standpoint, it would help me know better what to do, or not do for that matter! PLEASE write in!!!!

" A program I have found useful is Celebrate Recovery, a Christian 12 Step program. They also can help you with codependency, which usually comes along when there is an addict in the family.
Your son will have to decide he wants to quit. I encourage you to do what you need to do to take care of yourself in the situation, and decide what you are willing to live with and vice versa. Firm but loving set boundaries. I think teens need to see consequences for their actions. Removing priveledges and beyond.

" You should try Al-Anon or getting a hobby. You can support and encourage your son, but also need to detach and take care of yourself first. You are not going to be able to make him stop. "

" i'm also trying to quit ; i use to smoke all the time, i couldn't really go a day without smoking.. there's some days where i don't want to smoke at all. but then there's also times when i have too. i want to stop.. i think its really a slow process.. the person really needs to be ready to quit, not just think that they want to quit . but really mean it. " Im shore you will find plenty of good help on here, when i joined i just wanted to cut down (and have a bit) But I am slowly starting about thinking of giving it up for good. So stick with it and let your son in on it to or he will think you are going behind his back. GOOD LUCK. "

" There are some studies in databases that show that pot has about 4 times the amount of nicotine/chemcials etc (each joint is about 4 ciggies).

If you want to contact me through my profile I could probably find them for you at uni.

This helped me gain interest in quitting. It is technically suicide. "
