How to convince my husband to see a doc?

My husband saw a doctor a few years ago, to become established at a new practice.. The doctor talked about marfans the entire time my husband was there.. My husband came home frustrated and asked "wtf is marfans syndrome?" I researched it, and he threw it off like the doc was crazy, and never went back.
Well I have a friend who's son is being evaluated for marfans syndrome.. it got me to re-thinking my husband.. I did research..and I was wondering if you all thought he fit the bill? He is about 6'2", very long arms/legs/fingers. He has a curved spine, and his chest sticks out.. he claims this was from a fall when he was a teen, messing around with a friend.. He claims he has scoliosis because he grew so quickly, like 6 inches at age 15. He does NOT have flat feet, or ANY eye problems.. but his stature and spine issue got me really thinking.. As far as I know no one in his family has died of heart issues, but his mother's side isn't very closely bonded and when some people die, others may not know why (family fued type crap).. So.. should I convince him to be seen? he is very adament that he does NOT have marfans.. I want to know for sure though, considering we have a child together. Posted on 09/15/11, 10:38 am |

Maybe you could just ask him to go for the sake of your child. Considering it's a genetic disorder, it may be better, in the long run, to find out if your husband has it now, rather than an emergency arising with your child later. Best of luck to you.

I understand how frustrating it is dealing with ahusband who doesn't want to go to a dr. My husband wouldn't go for a long time and he was diagnosed when he was 5. But now he has extreme dialation in his aorta and has to regular monitoring to make sure his aorta doesn't rupture prematurely. He now regrets not going. I would continue to encourage him, he may just be scared to hear that something is wrong. My husband doesn't have flat feet either but he has extremely hugh arches instead.

Yes, get him checked. Although he may not have all the symptoms it is worth the time to get him evaluated. My son had many of the symptoms and we had no idea he had the genetic disorder. It was too late for us, encourage your husband to get checked for your child and you. It is scary but you will have a peace of mind. Good luck..
