wet type and dry type

my mother has been told that she has (probably) had the wet type MD in one eye because it progressed so quickly and she now can see nothing but very slight peripheral vision. She was told that the other eye is the dry type...........I am unclear as to whether or not this can suddenly change to the wet type or not? I find this very confusing and really need to know more about it as her eyesight really is so bad and causing a lot of confusion in getting around....thanks!

" I had dry MD for a few years, and then a year ago, suddenly, along came wet macular degeneration in my right eye. I began injections of Lucentis in that eye immediately and that has definitely made a difference. Then a month later, I got "wet" MD in my left eye and began injections of Avastin in that eye. I was told, after the fact, that if you have dry macular degeneration, you may get the wet. That was certainly true in my case. The injections sound awful, but considering how much they help, it's worth it. Eventually they stop the treatment (2 yrs. maximum) and hopefully, the eyes remain improved. I get the treatments once a month. "

" Yikes
I have dry in both eyes, have for about four years with little or no change. I was told by more than a couple of docs that there may never be any change and was told to take vitamins.

As far as the impairment in getting around, well, I had to surrender my drivers license, but I have no trouble with steps, doors, etc. But I rely on the side vision. Can't identify people I meet until I hear their voice. Not a bad condition so far, many worse ailments suffered by us old folks. "
