Catalyzt's MCTD Research Proposal

I am, indeed, doing a research proposal on MCTD for my Masters Psych program, but I will probably not do the study... though I might The assignment is just to do the proposal.

It is not the study I discussed before, but it looks at some of the same issues. The idea is to measure the impact of Sense of Coherence -- sort of the comprehensibility of life in general -- on Life Satisfaction, which is some kind of index, in MCTD patients.

In theory, this could help us be compared with Arthritis patients, or Diabetes patients, etc. There will also be another part of the study that attempts to define what elements of our lives or attitudes help us cope with the illness... does understanding it help? Having a supportive spouse? Steady job? What is most important?

Anyway, I may post the proposal here when I am done... and there is always the remote chance I might see if any of you would be willing to participate in a more formal survey or study (absolutely ZERO pressure on that, naturally!) (I did one VERY informal survey last year or something, very unscientific, but it was interesting. If anyone wants me to repost the results, I will.)

Best,

" Thanks, guys!

The assignment is just to do the proposal, not the actual research project/survey.

Having said that, it does seem kind of demented to do the proposal, which is the lion's share of the work, without doing the project, which sounds like it's going to be 3 questionnaires with 10 to 30 questions apiece. I mean, why NOT do the survey?

My first draft of the proposal did not cut it-- the professor basically thought it was too disorganized, and I'm sure he is right. So it will probably be at least another two months before the project is ready... there's also an ethics form that I have to fill out.

But I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm for the idea... so I would say the odds are better than even that I will actually go through with the study after the assignment is complete.

Thanks again,
