breathlessness

I have been feeling pretty ill these past few days...inflammation etec. Tonnight i am feeling really breathless and having difficulty swallowing. I have also having palpitations, and feeling panicky. I am tempted to call the hospital, but because ive had similar experiences in the past, and waited and the symptoms subsided, i am tempted to wait it out again.
I wonder if its just me that gets this. One of my first symtptoms was the swallowing difficulty when i was around 20 years old. I had an x ray but nothing was found so it was put down to stress. I was just about to go to sleep when it all started.
I am going to see specialists in a London lupus/mctd clinic next month, and in a way i cant wait. I hate taking all this medicine especially as i still dont feel well.
Thanks for any input
hugs x

" I have spells of breathlessness with palpitations, sometimes together, sometimes alone. I feel like a very old lady out of breath at times. Also my difficulty with swallowing they say is GERD. I'm having a bad time right now, on plaqunil, prednisone and vibramycin, plus everything else for everything else, lol. But I just don't get many good days. Will it always be this way? "

" Hi, thanks for your replies. I am pleased that i survived the night. I think i have a cold coming on as i feel very congested. Numby i am sorry you have these problems as well. It is scary taking all these meds and still having lots of symptoms. I wish a cure could be found for us all. I have heard of GERD but dont really know much about it. i will look it up.
Marilyn thanks for the hug and message. I hope you are keeping well and warm. Its been unusually warm here these past few days. Yesterday we had swarms of ladybirds....apparently they have come over from some exotic place. They are slightly different to ours.
Thanks again for your replies. take care of yourselfs and have a peaceful evening. Hugs x "

" I sure do know what you mean! Trouble swallowing, regurgitation in the night. Palpitations and wheezing! Finally had the pulmonary function test which I passed again! But the tech was so suprised because she could hear the wheezing and see the shortness of breath!I give up on this one. I guess I will have to wait until it gets worse before the test will change. Good luck with this one!

" Occasionally get palpitations, usually not so bad. They say that the real danger sign is palpitations after or during exercise.

Do you find you recover quickly from the breathlessness, Jacqui? That is what makes it possible for me to still do sports. If I pull over to the side of the slope and just gasp for 30 to 90 seconds, seeing spots before my eyes, it passes and I feel almost normal again.

It is hard not to panic when you are having trouble breathing! "

" Hi cat, this latest breathing problems lasted for 3 hours, thats why it was so scary. I have had this a few times before. Sometimes i get breathless climbing the stairs etc, but this is different. It feels like my breathing muscles are weak and my airways blocked. I was checked out about a year ago and my lung function was below normal and i had the first signs of lung disease, but wasnt given anything to help. it feels like what i imagine asthma to be like.
I will mention it when i go to London. I still feel congested which probably made things worse. I have given up smoking completely....i know i have too with all these problems.
I hope you are keeping well and things are getting better fr you emotionally etc.
Take care of yourself
Hugs x "

" Cat, I do the same thing you do. It comes on, I sit out from whatever I am doing and it ususally leaves in a few minutes and then I can resume what I was doing. The only times, it comes back right away and gets worse is if I am in a flare. This lung thing is sorta new for me and i haven't really figured out if it might be gerd related. It is a really weird feeling at times. I only get it when i am exerting myself and not even all the time. Haven't even mentioned it to doc yet. Like MaryAnn said, just will wait and see if it gets worse.
