Does anyone have swelling in there throat?? I have been having this happen to me for the last three months, off and on...sometimes more than others. It does not feel like a sore throat, it feels like there is something swelled up in my throat, it hurts to swallow really bad, have difficulty swallowing, hurts to eat. Just curious if anyone has this.
Thanks again to everyone for always taking the time to help. hugs, paige Posted on 06/07/09, 08:06 pm |

That's the first indicator for me that i'm flaring. That's actually the first symptom I had when I found out I was sick. I couldn't swallow at all...and my throat feels full when my cpk is elevated. I have to say though...I have a huge goiter in my thyroid,so that adds to the discomfort.

Paige, I never feel like something is in throat but I do go thru bad bouts of not being able to swallow food or water. It just sticks in middle of throat and hurts pretty bad and makes it hard to breathe. I do go hoarse alot and can no longer even sing a few lines with out my throat muscles just getting real achy and exhausted. I asked RH about it and he took me off Prilosec and gave me Kapidex so I'm assuming he just thinks it's all Gerd related.

ya, I do have a thyroid condition, but the doc said he couldn't feel anything inflamed in my throat, they did a throat culture, so I guess we will see what happens on wednesday when I get my blood results. I have been hoarse though. I just don't know, I just know that when it happens it scares me. Don't like that feeling.
Thanks you guys for your quick replies, I really appreciate you all. Hugs, paige

I think on wednesday i will find out more of what i have...funny thing though I thought i would share. I went into the hospital today to get my chest xray...it's with IHC (so you know they have all records of previous visits) anyway the guy said to me, "So you have terbuculosis" and I was like ummmm what's that and then he shut up and didn't say another word. What is that? and does he know something I don't? I just found that weird. Sometimes I knwo I have had nurses and others say things to me before the doctor tells me and they shouldn't...just wanted to share...LOL LOL Thanks again everyone.
hugs, Paige

Tuberculosis. The lung infection that makes you cough and cough. Spit up blood too. Usually not diagnosed with just a chest x ray. They do a skin test called a Mantu test. I am sure you have had one in the past. People on immunosupressants, like prednisone and chemo and people with HIV and AIDS are prone to it. There are meds to take to get rid of it. Takes a long time though.

So just got back from the dr. tests are in. I have SLE (which I already knew) definate now I have MCTD (RNP levels at 3.1) and have sjogrens (levels at 3.0) I need to find out more on the sjogrens, anyone here familiar with it??? Then my thyroid levels were off the charts. I have had hyothyroid most of my life..normal levels he said are .4 to 4.5 and I am 99. So now I have some answers, now just need to deal with it all.
The steroids are helping, but we are going to continue them for now until we get my thyroid levels back to normal. Thank you everone for all your help. Hope you are well. Hugs, paige

Swollen throat is almost always my first symptom of a flare up as well. This happens OFTEN! More often than I would like for sure. I have been managing all of this naturally (with diet, etc) and it seems to be working miracles!!! No meds for me anymore. They were doing me more harm than good.
