I want to share something that might help you. I say might. It won't help if the fluid is hardended .
About 3 years before I was diagnosed with Hereditary Lymphedema Type 2, and 12 years after my lower left leg began to swell... I was being tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis. I actually had a lot of pain and swelling in my hands around that time too and the doctor put me on Salsalate (Salaflex) 750 mg twice a day. It was almost a miracle. The swelling in my huge left foot decreased by about 75%. I know they say there is no drug to treat Lymphedema, but if this works for other patients as it has worked for me then many folks are needlessly suffering. I'm not saying the swelling will completely go away, but most of it will, if it works for you. Salsalate is an NSAID. Although I was prescribed to take it twice a day, I only take it once a day because otherwise it caused dehydration symptoms in me. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor if you can try it to see if it works, unless you are on some other med that will react to it. Posted on 09/21/07, 03:09 pm |

Hi There, I am so glad for your message as I have also been told that there is no cure for Lymphedema and all I have been given is hoisery but I shall get on to my Doctor asap and ask for this drug and plead with him until he at least lets me try it. Thank you soooo much for your post as I honestly thought there was nothing out there to help me.My swelling is at its worst right now and caused a huge weight gain.
