Hot Flashes...?

I need some insight on a symptom I am experiencing. And the BEST WAY I can describe it is sort of like a hot flash. I start to feel really really really hot..usually starts in my head then my ears..then moves to the rest of my body..eventually covering my entire body from my head to my toes in a matter of seconds. Its like a burning feeling and pins and needles all over. Along with this I get light headed and feel as though Im going to pass out along with head pressure. I have had 2 mri's of my sinuses and brain and they have found nothing wrong. I thought this symptom was due to my anxiety but....it seems to be happening more frequent the past few days (starting halloween night) and it is so powerful I have to stop whatever I am doing and recoop. And i dont really feel anxious it just comes on all of a sudden. Outside of these episodes I seem to be in a constant state of feeling like my skin is red. I feel like my skin is burning slightly...almost like a sunburn. I feel as though when I look in the mirror my face and hands are going to be bright red..but they arent...they just FEEL like they are if that makes any sense whatsoever. If this sounds formiliar to ANYONE please let me know your experience and if youve found out what is causing it. Its making me exhausted and I dont like to go anywhere cause im afraid it will happen while im out. And although i have NEVER passed out...I always feel like I am going to...And I would had to be out with the kids the one time I ACTUALLY do.

" I do know that for me I do break out into hot flashes all the time. I do not however experience lightheadiness or head pressure. It would not surprise me that this would be related to Lymes. It can affect every part of our bodies.
I can just be sitting there and all of the sudden I will start to sweat and will be so hot. My daughter hated going anywhere with me because I am always asking 'is it hot?" and I even in winter ride with the air on in my truck. Tingling I get sometimes.
One thing I have learned with this disease is not to be surprised about any symptom. just keep an eye on in and maybe even right it down so you can see if there is a pattern to when it happens. I hope that you feel better soon. I know firsthand how unbearable these symptoms can be and how devastating the effects on our lives ae. "

" I get hot flashes like this...but it's more from anxiety. I have not been diagnosed with lyme...yet. I had my blood work done today and am hoping that is what it is.
Are you thinking anything when this happens? Just wondering if it's a panic attack. That is what happens to me during a panic attack. I am not saying that it is...and am not underestimating anything, but I have had these feelings and they were from panic. Still sucks. I hope you find answers. "

" I thought the hot flashes I had been experiencing were related to menopause (since I am in that age bracket), but as my Lyme tx continued, the flashes went away. Now that I am off abx, the flashes are back.
Mine don't seem to start in my head, but from somewhere in the middle of me, and they go the head, my ears turn red, sometimes my face flushes, and I feel lightheaded but not enough to pass out. If I am standing when it happens, or in a situation where I can't remove some of my clothing (like a coat or sweater), I start to feel ill, and it helps to sit down. Sometimes I just have to sit down right where I am, like right now.
I do believe this, like the cold flashes, are from the Lyme. "

" It's the Lyme, I'm sure of it, especially now that mine are back. I try to dress in layers when I go out so I have something to take off, LOL, w/o attracting attention. I dreamed last night that I was at a church service and I was naked (everyone else was dressed), and I wonder if I was having a flash in my sleep! "

" I know *exactly* what you're talking about! I've had my share of panic attacks but these attacks were different. I wasn't panicky except if it got to the point where I felt like I was really going to lose consciousness...never did but came close once.

And yes, it always started with a sudden rush of hot, tingling all throughout ...I called them hot flashes too.
This started for me around May of this year. This was before my Lyme dx (although probably had it then). was diagnosed as vaso vagal episodes - a benign fairly common condition. This answer really didn't satisfy me b/c it was happening with increasing regularity - from once a month to once a week. I would live with anxiety that I'd pass out or at best look like "a freak" at some inopportune time. Around July I put two and two together and figured my body was telling me something about having started a hormonal birth control (Nuvaring) a few months prior. I stopped the hormones and no more hot flashes! For me I think it's a combo of Lyme and hormonal birth control. I had been on the pill for most of my 20s and never had a problem.
Keep playing detective for yourself. Even with vasovagal there are triggers to be aware of and ways to moderate the symptoms.

It really is an awful feeling and I hope you get to the bottom of it and feel better soon! Hang in there! "

" Mj...it is interesting that you mention hormones...because I have had a feeling that my hormones have been off for a while. I am going to request my levels get tested next time I go to the doctor. Right now I am sort of on a break playing detective because of insurance issues :( But it helps so much to know that other people have experienced the same thing. The dr sort of looked at me like I was nuts when I tried to explain these episodes. "
