So after a year and a half of FINALLY getting the medical attention that I need and FINALLY getting a doctor to believe my symptoms and try to figure out what is wrong with me....my insurance company is now denying my claims and refusing to cover my medical bills because according to THEM... I have gone to the dr too many times this year and had too many tests.

" I understand your frustration and pain. I had to quit IV antibiotics because my insurance company wouldn't cover beyond 30 days when the doc recommended at least 60-90. Treatment is expensive, and so are good Lyme docs. All I can say is try to appeal. But, as we all know, that probably won't work.

For me, I am still on orals, and I can still continue to see my doc, thank God. I truly feel horrible for you as I think right now I'd be lost without him. But still, I am picking up a couple of Lyme treatment books this weekend and am going to learn about some of the alternative treatments and protocols. I hear some of them are very effective, so that's hopeful. It's worth looking into.

" Are with a HMO? they can tell you what doctors to see and how much you can spend. I think that is such crap. The only thing I say to those people are I hope that they go through the same thing if their family member ever gets this.
I know I should not feel this way but I do. I hope that everything works out for you. If you can find a LLMD and pay them on your own you could probably get them to give you oral abx and then go to like Walmart where thay only charge $4 a prescription. I will keep you in prayer hoping God will find a way for this to all work itself out for you. "

" We have BC/BS, and until lately it has paid everything w/o so much as one question. Suddenly we have had three things kicked back to us -- one related to my cancer and two related to the Lyme. Each time my husband has been told that there was a "mistake" made by some computer, but he doubts that, and he told them so. The codes are right, the benefits are there, but for some reason we get put in the rejected pile. Then with the phone call they apologize and pay the darn bills. I wonder if they see the approaching storm coming with this health care "reform" and are trying to make hay while the sun shines. I don't know. "

" Our BC/BS is a nonprofit, so I don't know if that makes a difference. We get it through my husband's work. I know sometimes you have to file appeals, or work your way up the chain of command to get the coverage you deserve. It's terrible, and unfair. "

" My insurance is a PPO. It really sucks because my husband took a difficult job with difficult hours BECAUSE of the excellent health benefits. Not to offend anyone by any means, but the people in my LLMD's office that are on free benefits through the state or Welfare have EVERYTHING covered. But when you work hard and pay for your own private insurance, you have problems with getting treatment covered???? Doesn't seem fair. And I am not saying those people should be denied, but why am I denied when they're not? "

" MeeShell. My husband also took his current job one part because of the great health insurance and also took on a promotion and more hours to be able to PAY for that health insurance. Thats why it is SOO FRUSTRATING to get denied when we are paying out over $1000 a month to cover our family and they ARENT EVEN covering it. "

" There are some companies that offer free or lower cost prescriptions to those that can't afford them. I would search the Internet. For the life of me, I just can't remember the name.

I wish you luck. All my best, "

" Footloose, one such free-med-finding company is needymeds: http://www.needymeds.org.

Vaebutterly, MeesShell and those getting insurance through their employer...anyone else notice that the choices are getting few and far between? We used to have about half a dozen choices of health plans to choose from at my husband's job (a big company). Now they're down to ONE. Why they still have "open enrollment". the time when you get to choose your benefits each year, is a mystery to me. The only choice is their last-plan-standing or NOTHING. We will be arbitrarily switched from Aetna to this plan at the end of the year. It sucks because while Aetna was expensive, their prescription coverage was excellent. Sorry for venting... vaeB, I hope you find a solution. I bet if you put up enough of a fight you can get some relief. But we shouldn't have to! "
