Im now being treated for Lyme 3 weeks. Taking Mepron, Cefdinir, and Azithromycin. I've had a sinus infection for about a week now, which has turned into a full respiratory infection. I have a terrible cough producing lots of brown phlem. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure if I should call my LLMD, who is booked for months, or my primary who doesnt even know that I'm being treated for Lyme.I would have thought taking these antiobiotics the last thing that would happen is I would get sick! It doesnt seem like any of these antiobiotics are going to treat this infection. Should I tempory stop treatment, go to my primary and get an antiobiotic for this? I wish I thought of this scenero when I met with my LLMD.

" I would call your LLMD and let him know of the problem. You may be herxing and it may be coming out in the form of a sinus infection/ upper respitory. I know before I was diagnosed I would suffer sinun infection one after another and no one could ever find the reason why.
I do know that Mepron is a very strong drug. I thought I was going to die when I was n it. I could not eat or sleep. I lost 15 lbs in about 2 weeks. that is one tough drug and it kills alot of the spirochettes which is why you are feeling so bad.
I don't think your GP will give you any other abx that is stronget then what you are on. I would call and let him know of your symptoms (LLMD) and see what he had to say. He might lower your dose or take you off of some. I hope you feel better soon and wish you much luck. "

" Are you sure it's an infection? Could it be an allergy? Or a reaction to one of the other meds you're taking (some people have a rough time with Samento dosage)? Or even - argh! - the flu?

It probably is just a herx but your LLMD should make the time to listen and tell you. And whatever it is your primary should be able to help you as well. I'm sure they won't mind you went to see a specialist for a special disease, which is after all what Lyme is.

" Coughing up brown phlegm? It could be an infection (there are so many diff infections, and each one takes a different antibiotic to treat it); but it'd also be a good idea to rule out pneumonia. I don't know, but could brown be traces of old-ish blood? I don't mean to scare you, but I think a call to your PCP would be a good idea. And another to your LLMD, just in case. Good luck, let us know how you make out, ok? "

" Yes, it's an infection for sure. The brown sludge that I'm coughing up is a sure sign of infection. I am prone to sinus/respiratory/chest infections, I'm just not sure how to handle this now. I think the best way is to start with the LLMD. "

" Have you tried a neti pot? THAT made a HUGE difference for me, I can't even tell you the dfiference it made.

Is there any chance it could be a herx, if you are suseptible to sinus infections? Just a thought. I was always getting sinus infections, every 2 months or so, I think it was part of how my lyme presented, so I understand, but usually the Azithromycin cleared it up b/c that antibiotic is designed to go into mucus membrane tissue. I would definitely call your LLMD. He may not need to see you, he may refer you to your primary, but I think it's important that he knwo what is happening to you. Hopefully you can call his office and leave him a message about your situation.

Good luck to you and keep us posted. "

" I love my Neti-pot! Haven't had a sinus infection in years! I use it every day during my shower, and think of it as similar to brushing my teeth.

It really makes a difference! "

" Well, I took yesterday off and I relaxed. That has helped. Along with the antiobiotics thaat I am already am on, this infection is starting to go away. I have used the Neti-pot, but I now use the Neilmed sinus rinse. I find this to be more effective. It is a squeeze bottle type, so you can give it a bit of pressure to really get up into those sinuses. It can be found in almost any drug store. This I use with the neti-pot salt.
This has helped alot. I now realise that I have to use it everyday, whether I am having sinus issuses or not. As a preventitive measure.
Anyway, back to work..... "

" I use the squeeze bottle too, much more "ladylike" to me than sticking a watering can up my nose!! I just call them all neti pots for identification. Glad you use that. Hope you keep feeling better. Do you buy your salt for the squeeze bottle? We foudn out what it is: 50% salt and 50% baking soda, and very inexpensive. Though personally I woudl probably buy the packets cuz it's just easier, my husband likes us to use "the real thing". Good luck to you! "

" I use "neti-pot salt", by himalayan institute. its all salt. i have a wonderful health food store not far from here. in fact, they were also able to get all of my suppliments that i need for treating my lyme, all from the manufactures which my llmd insisted on. I would otherwise have to order it on line. by getting it from them, i have managed to actually save a few dollers, so happy about that!
anyway, i never heard about the baking soda. i may just try adding a bit to see what happens. I'm becoming a bit of a scientist since this lyme thing!
Thanks, and be well. "

" vitacost.com is often a good source for affordable supplements. I have saved a ton using them. "
