So, vaccinate or not?

Lyme is pretty hard on our immune systems.

What should we do?

" Personally, I am not anymore worried about this flu than any other flu. I, for one, will not vaccinate. I've gotten the flu shot and gotten the flu anyway, lol. Besides, I feel they rushed to get this vaccination out, I can't trust it yet. "

" personally there is no way I will get the vaccine. I agree it's rushed. also way over blown. my LLMD said do NOT get the vaccine. He said if you feel at all under the weather, take 50,000 IU's of Vitamin D3. NOT regular D, D3. I have told several people this who put it to the test and all were amazed they felt better the next day. For me, he didn't tell me that til I had been sick 4 days already. LOL "

" I am going to get the H1N1 vaccine today...if supply permits.

I'm a nurse practitioner so I don't want to put my patients at risk. Even if I don't get it I could still carry it and pass it on. Secondly, I've received the flu vaccine each year and haven't had any problems. I believe it does help build the immune system. In terms of concerns that it was manufactured too quickly, the technology for making the flu vaccine is a well-known entity. The vehicle already exists they just had to insert the information on the virus. A new specialized flu vaccine is made each year depending on which strains they anticipate being around. I view the H1N1 as an add-on to the regular flu vaccine.

I know it's a personal decision that's best made in consultation with your health care provider. But this just happens to be my personal take on it. Good luck! "

" I to think that they are making way more out of this flu then it really is. I get a newsletter from Dr.Mercola , helike to use natural health products and he advised against it because of the high mercury count in it. That in itself is scary becasue look who they are giving it to, the pregnant and the young two groups who deinately do not need mrecury.
It is up to the individual though. I guess if you believe all the hype and then its for you. I myself did my own research and that how I found out that it has a high mercury count. Good luck in making your decision. "

" yes, definitely a personal decision. Just seems like here we are, having to change our diet to an organic one (at least I was told to by my LLMD), take lots of supplements, no sugar, no wine, etc. to get better. to then add a foreign vaccine - to me it's totally opposed to what I am doing and my goal. I'll stick to the vitamin D3! "

" D3 is another form of vitamin D that is absorbed up to three times better than D2 is. There is no firm upper limit on how much vitamin D3 you should take but the National Institute for Health advises not to stay on the 50,000 iU kick for more than 8 weeks at a time:

http://dietary-supplements.info.ni...

I was mildly vitamin-D deficient and was able to get my levels back with just one 1,000 IU D3 tablet a day for a couple of months. Your body stores any extra it can't use in fat. So you can probably save a few $ by not buying the mega-doses. As for me, I'd rather get the shot and not spend the $ on the stuff I'd have to buy if I got the flu (assuming the vaccine works!)

" Sadly there is nothing mild about my deficiency. I have been severely D deficient for over 2 yrs. My primary put me on mega doses of regular D, and a yr later, I was still testing "6". We went through that twice with no change. I can't remember what the norm is, but 6 is way down there. My LLMD put me on D3 for the reasons you stated. Have now been on 10000 IU's a day for 2 months, and just tested way down still, now an 8. At least it's going up! I only take the 50000 if I am not feeling well, never on a regular basis, only for a few days. Dr. Mercola says to take 20000 of the D3 if you are deficient for 2 months. We are definitely all individuals. I have a long way to go before I can take 1000 IU a day. It would be great to take that amount, but I have to wait til my D gets up to a normal level. Good luck with the vaccine. We definitely all need to do what we feel best with! "

" Sorry to be off on a tangent here...IWO -- 6 to 8 -- that is low! My lab says the low for normal is 30-100, another place says 16-70 is the normal range. Mine was 24 (12 of D2, 12 of D3) in March and was up to 41 by September. I'm curious did your Doc give a guess as to what was up with your levels? Do you think they have anything to do with the heart troubles (on the other thread)? I was worried that my kidneys were failing. At any rate, I hope you can get those levels up!

Thanks,
-FM "

" yes, scary low. my llmd thinks i have an absorption problem, cuz most of my minerals are really low. but B vitamin is normal, so go figure. he has me on some special enzymes that taste awful, huge horse pills (in my opinion but I'm a wimp) to try and help with the absorption. I think that's what I'm on for that. I know I'm on something! My sister tested like you, slightly below normal. Every time my primary tests me, he calls me himself all alarmed. I sure hope this high dose of D3 does the trick! I don't know about the heart being involved, new thought I need to go in and get a kidney and liver enzyme count, but haven't done it yet. More blood!
