Hi All, Having a tough lyme's week. This week the lymes is clearing out of my joints, so as well as still having the daily coughing with inhaler, brain stuff and pain, my joints are feeling unstable, weak and in a lot of pain. I'm getting numbness coming and going. All in all, I think the "chetes" are dying off more - (which is good) but the symptoms are scary this week.
I have a healing team, and only one healer totally gets lymes and is helping me heal. The rest, although helping with symptoms, will not believe I have lymes, even though I have all the symptoms, almost died last spring (first blood test was negative, so far). So today, my chiropracter, who has been helping my back stay together as I herx was telling me that lymes shouldn't overpower me and I should be able to heal instantaneously by intention - that my health issues are my own creation and my healing is "taking too long". It felt abusive - and the awful thing is - his wife has lymes and I think he may be in denial of it and taking it out on me. Can't figure it out - all I know is some docs don't get it and blame us for being "sick" Feeling down today and need some hope and faith I'll get through this. hugs to all, clairejean Posted on 07/02/09, 02:07 am |

Can a positive attitude play a part in coping with illness and in facilitating wellnesss? It seems the answer is yes- it can play a part. Does that mean that the opposite is true- that if one's attitude isn't totally positive, then he/she caused the illness? That's illogical and ignorant. Don't even get me started! And, since WHEN can lyme be healed (by any method) instantaneously?????? One would think your chiro would be more compassionate, seeing his wife live with the battle of lyme disease. I'm SO sorry he made such comments! Hang in there.....

I echo what Moreel said...some days we seem to be surrounded by idiots. Does he believe that a patient of his with a herniated disc can just wish it away? He wouldn't have much an income, would he.
Positive thoughts, affirmations and visualization can all play a big part in fighting any disease. Sometimes they are hard to do, and practice (for me) seems to be the key. I also have what I call a "team"...and each one has something to offer that is positive and helpful. Anything else that comes out of their mouths, I toss in my mental trash can. I am sorry he made you feel this way. Big hugs!

My chiro was less-than-on-board when I first went to him saying the dr's think I had Fibromyalgia.
He made his "they say it's Fibro when they can't figure it out" comments, and then I grilled him. I said my back needs adjusting, as did my neck. And that I felt strongly that chiropractic was going to be a good thing for me, as they figure out just what is wrong with me (Lyme, not fibro, in the end). I asked point blank if he could treat me, knowing I was being treated by the rest of my health team, potentially, for fibro. I've been seeing this doctor for 10 years, but if he'd said he would continue to question, I'd have walked. Maybe he knew that, but he did say he wanted to be part of the solution for me. And he was. In fact, he beat himself up a bit for not having come up with the Lyme dx. I guess my point is, if this chiro isn't going to be a supportive member of your health team, it's time for a different chiro. Fighting Lyme is hard enough, having a doubting Thomas questioning your every effort just isn't going to help. And ask him for us, just how long does he think it should take to heal Lyme. If he says 4 weeks, tell him there's an opening for him in the CDC ;-)

Thankyou all so much for your support! I just don't get why people - especially docs who are supposed to be helping and whom we are paying to help, act so crazy. I will look for another chiro if this one continues to be non-supportive. I need a chiro to help me get through this phase of healing with so much joint instability - but I don't need to be blamed for my illness or how long it takes to heal. My body and mind have been through so much - I know you all know how tough it is and the courage it takes to heal.
I am a positive person and do meditation, affirmations, prayer to help with the healing. Maybe he is in denial about how serious lymes is because his wife was recently diagnosed and he hasn't been able to accept it yet. Can't tell. Either way, I need positive support to get through this. Thanks for being here - and much love and healing to everyone. hugs, clairejean

We've all been there with this or that doctor. This is a controversial diagnosis and is not readily accepted by mainstream medicine -- yet.
Anyways, when this happens to me and I get a lecture like this, I just try and remind myself that doctors -- all of them -- just want to help. And they are going to give their opinion, which is what they should do -- it's what we pay them for. I just try to shake the dirt off my feet and focus on the positive steps taken towards healing...I listen to all doctors I've seen for this -- even the ones who I don't agree with to see if there's any validity to their opinions. Lyme is controversial and so is the treatment so I have to try and be open too.
