Has anyone been on, or on azithromycin?
Any weird side effects?
Did it help?

I'm on it and hear bubbling noises like something is on in my ears
Trying to figure out if it is the medicine or just the lyme out of nowhere.
I never had this symptom before.

Any info. would be great,Thanks

" I was on it for a long time, along with Mepron. Yes, it helped me a lot! As for the ears, I have had many weird sounds in my ears, long before the zithro. You should ask your LLMD to be sure it is an okay symptom to just ignore for a while. It's hard to know which one's to "sit on" and which ones to have evaluated by a specialist... so I always ask my LLMD or one of his associates. :o) Good luck! I hope it helps you! "

" I was on it for about a month. When I was referred by my Neuro LLMD to an ID LLMD (contradiction in terms? lol...), he put me on Biaxin instead.

Not sure if a month's long enough to have developed side effects, but I did find I began to feel better on it. I feel GREAT on Biaxin.

Like SS, I had sounds in my ears, but def from Lyme not the treatment. I used to "hear" carousel-like music in the distance. And an occasional buzzing sound, slight but distinct. "

" I've been on the azithromycin since January, and I am seeing LOTS of healing. I also hear weird things, but I'm certain it's the Lyme, not the meds. Still, like Standstrong said, you should run it past your doctor, just to be on the safe side. Actually, the other night when we went to bed, which is when my ears are the loudest, I realized that the noise wasn't as loud as it's been. More progress! And my crunchy neck isn't as painful! Yeah!!! "

" Oh that stiff neck is annoying, isn't it Laura?

I don't mean to be glib about the ear issues, but I wonder, if we put all our Lyme-created sounds together, if it'd be like a little symphony..... "

" LOL! Maybe, Jenn, but it would be like when they are warming up and tuning the instruments, but that would be the entire program! "

" My daughter's on Azithromycin for a year, and I am supposed to increase it, but am waiting until her herx is over. She's never had any known side-effects from it, which is unusual- she's had strange side-effects from most of her meds at one time or another. She's had various ear symptoms and vertigo, but mostly before treatment. So, I guess she won't qualify for being in your symphony! "

" No problem, Moreel - we need a conductor for the rest of us who'll all be going in different musical directions :)

Glad you guys got a laugh from my silliness - I sure don't mean to minimize anyone's symptoms. "

" It's a "known bug"...

I found other similar articles, all said long-term use can cause ringing of the ears. May be time to switch to a different abx? "
