My first thought is are you sure this is an allergic reaction and not a herx? This is an LLMD, right? My second thought is any medication can do that, and it can be so discouraging. Just hang in there and your doctor will come up with a good alternative. There is more than one way to smack a spirochete. Don't loose hope.... hugs... Donna

There are definitely multiple prescriptions that can go in via picc line. I believe there's another form of the abx Rocephin, that's related but maybe won't cause the same reaction.
I think I've heard Doxy can also be given via picc line, tho I think that's done if someone can't tolerate doxy via pill form. Hope you'll get your answers tomorrow, please let us know how you make out, ok? Jenn

Hello whodo,
Ceftriaxone is marketed as Rocephin needs to be administered only once a day. Ceftriiaxone may foster gallstones or sludging, but this is generally reversible when antibiotics use is discontinued. The main options for treatment are Cefotaxime which is marketed as Claforan, has lower levels of binding than ceftriaxone and is not associated with gallstones, the drawback to cefotaxime is that it is shorted lasting and must be administered two to three times daily. There are other forms of treatment that are oral too such as Azithromycin (Zithromax) or Biaxin both of which cam work well against lyme disease. Hope this help, Dave
