Low Dose Naltrexone

Hi all,
So my hubby started with the low dose naltrexone maybe a week ago, and in the past 3 days he has really been Herxing. I was wondering for those of you who have used this treatment, did it contribute to additional Herxing? I don't know if this is a coincidence, or whether it is already helping his immune system to the point where he is killing more bugs to the point where he is herxing because of it. Any thoughts? Thanks! Posted on 10/01/11, 02:28 pm |

I was using LDN at a very low dose of .5mg and the plan was to work my way up. I herxed strongly at that dose, and was advised to stop. If there is ANY Candida issue at all, the LDN will exascerbate Sx.
Once the Candida issue is handled, I will be revisiting the LDN. If his CNS is sensitive (mine is uber-sensitive), low and slow is the best idea. Heavy herxing can cause damage, and there is zero proof that attacking this illness hard has more benefit than pacing oneself to a more manageable level :)

I didn't notice any additional herxing. To my utter amazement, I noticed a marked decrease in my chronic pain. And over time the fatigue lifted and I felt generally less depressed and irritable.
I don't know what is causing his symptoms but I'm inclined to believe there is no relationship, based on my own experiences. Specifically what symptoms of a herx are troubling him?

His symptoms seem to be similar to the symptoms he's had during other herxes: no short term memory/concentration, more extreme joint/muscle/all over pain, wonky vision off and on, awful vertigo, not really able to sit or stand up for more than a few seconds before the orthostatic intolerance knocks him down, muscle spasms in his stomach and severe nausea. Luckily the last 2 are addressed by some of his meds. We cut the LDN dose down to a smaller bit and plan to titrate up a bit more slowly. I do think overall it will be helpful for him because his immune system has been in poor shape the entire time I've known him (now we realize it was of course b/c of the Lyme for so many years) so hopefully this will give his system a bit of a boost. His CD57 is quite low.

Is he taking any enzymes or something to break up biofilm? That would be more likely to cause the increased dieoff and herxing than the LDN.
