Treatment question, daily IV?

After 6 months of intermittent Amox/doxy not working I'm going to see a great Lyme doc about 60 miles away who takes my insurance. My question is, if he orders a daily IV do I have to go to an infusion center where he has privileges or can I go anywhere with his prescription....how does this usually work?
As an aside, I can tell when I'm having lyme brain because I can't type as well (keyboard I mean) does anyone else get this? Posted on 11/02/09, 11:11 am |

It depends on your insurance. With come you can infuse at home, with others in the office. For me, I was able to infuse at home but doc required that I come in to have my dressing changed and blood work drawn once a week. Some people in the office came in every day and some 3 days a week. You'll just have to ask the doc all the ins and outs as it's different for everyone. Good luck!

yes on the typing. writing has become even worse for me.
every insurance company is diferent and every doctor is different so there is no telling till you get there. the LLMD may decide to not even do IV but to use highr doses and different combinations of orals. I see a docotr that is a few states away and we have made it work. my insurance coveres very very little anyway even when I was seeing a local doctor because i have no ou of network benefit and could not find a doctor on network who even admitted that Lyme was in this state even though I had a PCR and western blot positive. It's a crazy crazy thing.

I am getting worse when it comes to typing or writing and even spelling/ reading. I take more time correcting what I have written then the actual time it takes to write it :( It seems to be getting worse not better. I was an avid reader and this has taken one of my favorite hobbies away. I fear that I will never get the capability to retain info again.

my insurance covered a picc line and I administered the iv antibiotic every day. I had a nurse come out once a week to draw blood and change dressing. Of course they charge you the copay which is better then not having insu. but still hurts us financially. Good luck hope all goes well.
