My husband got me a Kindle for my birthday. It's pricey ($350), but for those of you who are readers and stuck in bed, this is a wonderful device. It's an e-reader, electronic book, with print that comes up on each page. The type can be made larger (for those with eye problems).

But the best part? It's connected to the whispernet and you can download books from Amazon in less than a minute!! When you're too sick to go to the bookstore, you can STILL download the newest book from your bed! New hardcovers are $9.99 (instead of $27); older books are less $5.99 or so. And there are lots of free books available too. The Kindle holds hundreds of books so you don't need to carry them around on painful joints. This device is the size of a paperback book. It's got large buttons for paging forward and back that every the most arthritic patient can use.

I get the joy I used to have going to the bookstore when I go to the Kindle store on the device and pick out new books. Once you finish a book, you can delete it and Amazon keeps your library online in the event you want the book again.

Downside? Price. Can't share books.

Upside: endless supply of books, ease of use, great for bedridden.

As you can see, I love mine. It sleeps next to me (along with the husband and 2 cats. [g]) If you can afford one and you are a big reader, this is a fabulous new device. I wish I'd had this when I first got sick and needed friends to bring me books. It would have made my life so much nicer.
