I have heard that YES you can have negative test results and still have lupus...also the opposite is true too...some people even normally or otherwise healthy people can test positive ANA but not have active lupus....SLE is a very mysterious disease

Around 95% of people with lupus have a positive ANA test at some point. They might test negative at first but along the course of the disease they will get a positive since it tends to fluctuate. If you never get a positive ANA and other tests show negative for Lupus it is less likely you have it. The symptoms can mimic other autoimmune problems. Even if you had a high ANA it doesn't mean you have it necessarily, but coupled with other symptoms that fit the disease make it more likely such as hair loss, rashes, and arthritis.

Yes it is very true you can have a negative ANA and have lupus. But sometimes it will be negative and sometimes it could be positive. That is my issue. So with that it is hard to get doc's to look further. Write down all symptoms...even the little ones. They all add up. Take those in and the doc will have a bigger picture. If he dismisses them then look for another doctor. Learned the hard way about this.
