Night Shade Plants

I was just wondering if anyone else here has been told not to eat night shade plants? My pain doctor told me not to eat green peppers, potatoes and tomatoes or any kind of tomato product. Have any of you tried this & if you did, how did it work for you?

" I have heard from many sources that the nightshade family can cause problems with arthritis and associated conditions. I have never had a doctor tell me to avoid them. Apart from the fact my life would be less without them....I am married to a Sicilian...so that could be a bit tricky! By all means, if you think it would help, give it a try, but don't forget to make sure you are not missing out on any vitamins and minerals, which are present in these foods. Cooked tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene which is a good thing....so research carefully. Good luck and let us know what you decide. "

" My doctor didn't tell me to avoid nightshade plants. I read it in a book about Lupus. It was interesting because I was actually getting more fever blisters, sores in my mouth and nose and more joint pain when I was eating nightshade plants. Make sure you take a good vitamin with your diet. Before I was even 50 yrs. old, the doctor told me to take 2 Centrum Silver each day.

I wish you much luck.
peace and love ... Kyle Anne "

" I have a tested sensitivity to potatos, so I cannot eat them; but I eat a lot of tomatoes every summer. We put out a very big garden and have lots of tomatoes and green peppers. There is a great way to test to see if your body has a reaction to them. Stay away from them for two weeks and pick one at a time. Ingest the suspect food and wait for 15-30 minutes and check your pulse. If your pulse rises, then I would avoid the food. I used to love to have a beer at the end of every day, a little ritual of mine that signalled the end of the work day. I found out using this method that I could not have anymore and when I actually got the food sensitivity test, it showed that I was indeed sensitive to hopps. "

" yes, my nutritionist says nightshade plants can inflame your joints, such as eggplants, broccoli, tomatoes. I still eat them but once in awhile. If I do get joint pains..then I watch what I eat and it does go away. You'd just have to see for yourself I guess. "
