butterfly rash

I was just wondering about the butterfly rash. I sometimes get red across my nose and cheeks, sometimes on my ears. Probably lasts for about and hour and a half and it feels hot, kind of like a sunburn. Is this what a butterfly rash is or does it come with patches or anything else?

" I developed my rash slowly starting from a blotch on my right cheek, then my left. THey spread out until they met on my nose, sometimes curving up over my eyes. Naturally this was over the summer when I was exposed to the sun more than usual. It would get very hot and raised, prickle, and of course turn bright magenta. (I'm very pale to begin with so it was quite noticeable) I guess what I'm saying is -I don't know, but here's what I went through. I had it for about 3 painful months before a dermatologist finally gave me some cortisone cream and it cleared right up. It hasn't been back in a year and a half. Sweet simplicity, go figure. "

" I have a permanent malar rash that does not go away. I always look like I have piled blush all over my cheeks and nose. I have tons of spider veins now from the inflammation of Lupus. Please see a dermatologist so this does not happen to you. "

" Yes, it's starts on my cheeks then it moves toward my nose. It looks like a bad sun burn. I usually get it when my flares are just starting and when I'm under lots of stress. It last for about 2 to 3 days, then it goes away. Maybe about once or twice a month. I don't put anything on it, and I stay away from the sun on the days I do have the butterfly rash. "
