Professional advice to gain lupus balance

Finding balance is hard for us all.
I was told to write down a list of things to do for the week - but no more than 7-10 things to do so I don't get overwhelmed.
Each day - depending on the severity of my symptoms- pick 1- 3 things to do, but only things that take 10-30 minutes to complete. Do one at a time Rest in between each task for at least 30 minutes. Next day - repeat.

It's a game plan at least.....

" I was just sitting here thinking about all I need to do today and haven't started anything. I'm bad to make a list with way too many things on it. Thanks so much for this advice. Think I'll go clean up my messy kitchen and make a nice fresh fruit salad.....its very easy.
Hope you will have a blessed week-end and a cool one. Way tooo hot down here in the south....102 degrees by Saturday. Whew!!!
Take care and many soft and gentle hugs.....
Virginia "

" Jeez. Today I had to go to the pharmacy which is about 15 minutes away and you'd think I was going to Africa. I have many things on my list that I want to do...I just sort of do them in moments of desparation and when I have bursts of energy. I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch today and when I woke up I thought I was totally crazy for scheduling it. I xld. Then I felt so bad. It's one of those days. I think your plan is a really good one. Can you have an alternate plan if you're too sick to deal? "

" I just joined this group & this is my 1st post. Because my memory is so bad, I use blackboards. It feels so good when I erase items off of them. I take advantage of the times when I have some energy. It's not often but I do my best. Today I actually walked my 3 dogs in the woods for about an hour. It wasn't easy, but I had to do it because I don't walk them enough. Tonight I walked my Afghan hound for about a half hour.

I try to wash the dishes so I don't have to see them in the sink when I wake up. There are some things that I've been putting off that I REALLY need to do. It seems the more important they are, the harder it is for me to do them. For some reason, I hate making phone calls. I put them off the most. I don't know why.

I try to tell myself that if I do this or that task, I'll have a great feeling of accomplishment. I feel proud when I do things. I also remind myself that if I overdo it, I'll pay for it that night and possibly for a few days to come. Like MButterfly, for bigger tasks (or sometimes even little ones), I take breathers and do it in bits and pieces.

I need to learn to ask for help. I hate to do that too. I need to learn to put my pride aside. "

" Hi Skinny and welcome! I like your blackboard idea. I, too, wait for energy opportunities. I'm so sick right now I just want to lie down. Today I must push. Hard day and it's not even 11:30. xo summer "

" Skinny- i'm definalty a fan of to do lists, i put even the tinyest thing on there like wipeing down counters so i can feel good when i cross it off the list.

i do short tasks that take 10-20 min then rest for 10-20 min. ever since i started this i get alot more done.

with the sever fatigue i have to pace my self

hugs to you guys "

" Rayfoof: You said it better than I ever could! You get more done if you pace yourself.

Don't get me wrong, I still have days when I can't stay awake - but marking stuff off my list makes me feel more useful and accomplished. "
