I can sympathize with you, several months ago I experienced the same thing. Bursitis in both hips which spasmed the muscles into my thighs. Tendinitis in both hands and feet. I tried heat, cold, stretching and exercise. My rhummy placed me on vitamin d due to deficiency, pulled my statin for cholesterol, ( which can also induce muscle spasms) and gave me flexeril. Although I felt it took forever to feel better it took a couple of weeks. Hope you feel better soon!!

I am glad I found someone who has experienced these same symptoms. I have had them for two years and my primary doctor has told me over and over it is my osteoarthritis in my hips. I was so close to having a hip replacement when I went to see the rheumy doctor and was told she believed I had vitamin Deficiency. I am hoping that I to will feel better in a few weeks. I am on my second week of taking 50,000 units of vitamin D so we shall see, Thank you

i have bursitis in both hips and its really painfull but not as bad as my other pains so i don't pay much attention to it! LOL

but my pain doc sent me to get steriod injctions in the bursa sac themselfs and it didn't help me much but alot of other people who have had this done felt alot of relife for about 3 or 4 months.

if its driving you bananna's it may be something to ask your doc about

I still have yet to find something that helps all the spasms tho

I've had hip bursitis for over a year, and am shocked to hear it's a common lupus complaint. Wow. I had cortizone injections and it helped a little for a short while. Prednisone is the only thing that helps, but only if I take 20 mg. I had physical therapy, do stretches and walk for exercise. It still hurts a little all the time, sometimes very badly for no apparent reason.

I have been on 50,000 units a week for 3 weeks now of vitamin D. Just when I feel I am making a break through the pain kicks in hard. Today it was my lower left leg but also I had alot of trouble with my hip to. I tried going without any pain meds today but I just couldn't take the pain. I even laid in the sun for two days..Only time will tell I guess.

I am also vitamin d deficient. My rheumy put me on vit d 50,000 1 weekly. I was also having pain in my left hip. She did a couple of tests and Rheumy states that it is Bursitis. I have been on the vit d for about 3 months now and it seems to have helped. Hope you feel better soon!

Can't believe how common hip bursitis is I've had it also. I didn't know it was related to lupus. My physo gave me hip strengthening exercises and my dr put me back on Arcoxia the pain has eased a bit I stopped doing the physo exercises because they caused more pain that I already had.

I have had chronic hip bursitis for 5 years now. I get steroid injections in the bursa of both hips when I need it and have gone to physical therapy but that seems to cause more pain then help. My bursae in my hips seems to get so swollen and irritated that when I walk I can feel a click in my hips. My PT and Rheum said that it is my IT band rubbing over my inflamed bursae. Its annoying but I have gotten use to the sensation. If anyone has any tips to get rid of it, I am all ears.

oh yeah guys its VERY common in lupus, so is tendon inflamation.

Some people get burisitis all over their bodys when they are haveing a bad lupus flare

Is this something that doesn't go away very fast. Last night I had a terrible night. I took oxycodone and when that didn't break through the pain I took morphine, propped my legs under a pillow, used a heating pad and still was up and down all night long. It was hard to walk. Now this morning I feel like a mummy and still very sore. I am going on my second month of 50,000 units Vitamin D. Most of my bad pain comes at night. During the day it is tolerable but difficult. At night it is terrible

Thanks for helping me with my mysteriously sore tendons. I didn't know that inflamed tendons are common with lupus either.

Sore muscles and tendons have seriously limited me in my physical activities since the mid nineties. It's a shame the doctors know so very little about this illness. It's not rare...statistically it's a very common illness, yet so little is known about it among medical people.

I guess the complexity of the illness scares them, so they try not to deal with it.

RichieD- try reading The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies on amazon. It might help. Trigger points (TrP) can cause muscle spasms and stretching makes the pain worse.

You can also look online for the area and the corresponding TrP., but they also can refer pain to another area. Press around, if you feel a pea size lump and it hurts when you press it, it very well could be a TrP. Very common in chronic pain conditions.
Hope this maybe of some help. I struggled for years trying to figure out what this pain was until I came across this book.

It's been a bit since I've wounderd around reading post but boy have I learned alot tonight ! Including Bursitis ! I had this pain for a few months a bit back I couldnt sleep,I couldnt lie on either side without the burning and pain being so intense I wanted to freak out !

I can't say that I fixed the problem and after awhile it finnally just went away just as it came on ! Alot of stuff comes and goes on me all the time like that. Makes me wounder ,long story ....

The Spasms I wanted to say I take 750 mgs of Robaxin and if you take Valuim with it,it does seem to really help ... I have big ,firm, annoying, and very painful spasms have had them for 2 yrs now and thats the only combo I found to make them somewhat tolerable.

My experience is different. I had severe right hip pain for 2 years and was fobbed off by my drs including one rheumatologist with the bursitus diagnosis and cortisone injections andNSAIDs. Eventually I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon who ran X-rays and much if my joint showed structural damage. The only longterm solution was a hip replacement when I felt ready for it. I had the op in Feb this year with a very good outcome pain wise as well as function.
For some reason hip problems cause more pain on lying down, that has all resolved. Good luck, hope you find some relief soon.
