I am a 60 yr old Caucasian woman.I was Rx’s w/Lupus(SLE)Nov 97,I've had many health problems since, including 2 TIA's,thyroid, gall bladder surgery, large lumps on lymph node near thyroid(were removed by surgery)& multiple other problems, including severe facial rash & sensitivity to sun & florescent lighting.FYI, unrelated I'm sure I had Uterurn Cancer in 04/91.I take many Meds for my SLE & TIA's but I've been feeling quite well for a almost a yr now.My question is: there are lumps growing just under the skin(some the size of a small lime)many on my arms, legs, buttocks on my mid section near the liver & a large one just at my pubic area.I have showed my General Dr & he doesn't seem concerned. But recently more have appeared & are painful.I met another woman yesterday who too,has SLE, she is in her early 40's.She had no idea that I was suffering w/these lumps, but she told me she had just started getting the same kind of lumps. Is this a Lupus related problem?

My glands swell a lot.. in my groin area those band of glands and under my arm pits... I was just reading in my lupus book that it is very common for your glands to swell but I would be concerned about the lumps in your mid section especially around your liver... I would get a second opinion...

I agreeyou should get a specilist to look at that especially since they are so large and painful and your history of cancer. I get swollen lymph nodes in my neck and armpit - it was one of my first symptoms of SLE - that come and go but they don't hurt and they are small.

I would get it checked out by your Rhumy or internist. Big hugs!

I agree these should be checked out and probably biopsied. From your description, it doesn't sound like they are all located at the sites of lymph nodes.
People get all sorts of benign growths. Does they feel sort of rubbery? If so they could be lipomas, which are fat tumors (benign) that become more prevalent with age. Or if they feel sort of hard, they could be granulomas, which are lumps that can form for a number of different reasons. Or rheumatoid nodules if they were mostly in your hands. But these sound larger from your description so I'd lean towards lipomas, especially since the doc didn't seem alarmed. Lipomas are generally removed when they start bothering nerves or your movement or just for cosmetics. I have one on my neck, but it's too close to a set of nerves and my doc said to leave it alone. But I DID have it biopsied so I knew it was not anything scary. Ask your doc to refer you to someone to biopsy or remove the ones that bother you the most. There is no correlation between lupus and these lumps. There IS a correlation between lupus and swollen lymph nodes. Tracy
