I have been on prednisone for the lupus this time around for about a week now. I have been on it several times before... I have been itching my scalp and now my body like there is no tomorrow. I just thought of to take the diphenhydramine about 10 mins ago. I took 50 mg. I dont know what else to do.... Should I be calling my doctor about this?

" yes, call. Prednisone can be a godsend with rashes and pain, but can make you crazy, even psychotic, and you probably already know it makes you eat all the time and gain weight.

I would count on prednisone to stop itching. If you are itching because of it, you might be having an unusual reaction, and you need to report it right away. "

" I did call... The on call doctor told me to stop my symbicort inhaler because the is the newest medicine that I have started. He did not think it was that but he told me to stop it anyways. He did say that the prednisone wouold help with the itching. I have been taking the diphenhydramine every 4-6 hours. I am not feeling well at all. I am still very itchy and it is driving me crazy. . " Yes,Prednisone can help with itching, so probably is some other stuff that causes you itchy. Do not stop your prednisone. Prednisone need to be tapered off. Your doctor maybe right, how long have you been taking the symbicort? One of the ingredient in symbicort is corticosteriod, but the other is formoterol, so maybe you 're allergic to formoterol. You will find out if you feel better after stoping the Symbicort. If not, think about any unusual stuff you eat or any new shampoo/body wash/soap? or has you been to somewhere unusal?
I hope you are feeling better by now and had a good sleep after the diphenhydramine, maybe once you wake up the itching will be gone. "

" Hi.
You may also want to try soaking in an oatmeal bath. Aveeno makes one for babies. Youd want to use a couple packets, but it may soothe the itching....I wonder whats going on? Melissa is also having extreme itching....Maybe she can tell you if anything is working for her. Im sure you could send her a personal message.
Hope you feel better "
