Sleeping Very Often

Hi, my mom has NSCLC Stage 4, she has undergone 10 chemo treatments, with the only side effects being extreme fatigue and lack of appetite (not that that makes it any better). Lately all she does is sleep, she can sleep for 24 hours straight with no food, no pain meds/meds in general or anything! She still is smoking believe it or not, and lately she wont even wake up to do that. Is this a normal thing? I am freaking out, I keep checking her to see if she is alive, God forgive me she puts the oxygen on and sleeps all day. I am terrified and sick to my stomach. This chemo is sucking the life out of my beautiful mom and this cancer is destroying the mother I know and love. I feel as if the end is rapidly approaching, I know it's in God's hands, but has anyone encountered this with their loved ones? She is on a morphine patch, but has been for months now =(

" So sorry to hear about your Mom. Putting her in the hospital was the best thing you could possibly do. They can watch her and do for her what you can't. Be with her when you can, but take care of yourself now too. God Bless! You and your Mom are in my prayers.

" Thank you, a word of advice, if your loved one sleeps way too often go to the hospital!!! Miraculously they did not intubate my mom, they put her on a machine that helped her to breathe and take away the Carbon Dioxide levels and she completely turned around (one night they could not even wake her up). She thankfully doesnt have cancer in her brain, which they originally thought, and she is going into a regular room. I cant even believe it, and I feel so much better. PS If any one of you lives in NYC GO TO SLOAN KETTERING!!!! They are just fantastic. "

" my dad had lung cancer, had chemo and raditation at the same time. then he got 3 brain tumors., and he sleeped a lot to , and in pain a lot, not eating or drinking any thing, and not his self any more, and it broke my heart, but i kept on being strong even though it hurt me on the in side,,,,,then he hardly could not walk, he was so weak, my mother, took care of him every day and i will go and help when i got off of work,, she often asked the doctors to put him in the hospital so she could have a break even though she stade with him... he always got dehydratied, and many blood transfussions too. then the dr. finally called in hospic, sadly 2 days later he passed away, i have troubles with this somedays, but i also keep it in my head what he was going threw , and all the pain, it does help sometimes, so i wish you the best of luck,,, and try to hang in there "

" She passed away on Nov. 4th. She was suffering so much, and died in a hospice hospital after being in a coma for several hours. My heart is broken, my soul is shattered. Its hard to lose your mom AND best friend all into one. I feel lost, and everyone else is going about their lives, while mine feels like its stopped or something. I am doing what I have to do, taking care of my young daughter, working, etc however my heart is not in it as much as it used to be (except for my daughter, my mom would haunt me if I wasnt a good mom to her). Very tough times "
