NSCLC and Squamous

My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. Now the DR says that it went into her ribs and it is also squamous cell cancer. It even went to her skin in her ear which she had previous skin cancer. She has been going through chemo and they said if she stops she will die in 3 months. She is very upset that she will have chemo for the remainder of her life. I am confused over the squamous thing, does anyone have any info on this? This is the worst thing I have ever gone through as my mom is everything to me. Thanks.

" First of all, I don't have any information on squamous cell carcinoma. Perhaps someone else will be able to shed some light on this.

I think the question we all ultimately have to answer is "Do I want to have chemo for the rest of my life, or do I want to stop treatment and start the inevitable decline?"

I will face that decision. I have NSCLC which has spread to bone and liver.

Talk with your mom about the consequences of each decision. Help her to work through her own feeling about death and dying. The decision is hers, but you can walk that road with her as she tries to make it.

I wish you peace. "

" Squamous cell is a type of non-small cell lung cancer. Chemo provides some benefit for survival, but no one can predict with precision what will occur. If your mom wants to fight, then things like carboplatin and/or taxol are the usual drugs.

I am sorry that this is so hard and sometimes its hard to understand why people we love suffer. "
