I have been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. I have never smoked and was very athletic, so this is hitting me hard. I lost alot of weight in the past month, from 140lbs to 110lbs, have hardly any appetite. I am very depressed and my doc has told me my mind is blocking my treatment. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to help me out both diet and emotionally. I have looked for local support groups but being in a small town in oklahoma the closest is an hour away. I have friends but none of them have been through this so I am reaching out to anyone who can help me.

Thanks for your help!

" For anyone with lung cancer of any kind, I would recommend positive pressure non-invasive oxygen, not the nasal tube with tank. With positive pressure you would be saturating your blood (and therefore your over-tired body) with oxygen. It could fight fatigue and allows pain meds to work better. Look into the system used for sleep apnea. There are recent studies with lung cancer patients showing that non-invasive positive pressure oxygen is better. Football athletes use it to improve performance during the game so the results are quick. Remember way back when the Olympics were in higher altitudes and everyone needed oxygen to perform? Works if you're sick too. "

" 1. Consider treatment at a comprehensive care center such as MD Anderson in Texas. It's your life, you want the best care.

2. How did they reach the diagnosis of small cell cancer. That is unusual for a non-smoker.

3. Are you EGFR positive. Then I would consider Tarceva even though it is usually used on non-smoking non-small cell lung cancer patients. "

" Hey Frank, my brother had small cell lung cancer, his dietitionist told him to drink boost Ultra I think it was called also, she said to try Juven, you put packets in whatever you like to drink. Try to do little things you enjoy, don't feel bad and just keep trying to do a little more each day, all I can say is keep eating even when everything starts to taste funny, keep you fluids going, do as much physical exercise as you can, and try to do a little more each day, if possible. Message those legs when you feel you can't do anything. My brother was doing remarkable well with the treatments, but it was a blood clot that took him. So, don't be afraid to report any strange fellings to your doctor. Hang in there, One minute at a time, baby steps, push yourself even when you feel like quiting. I believe we are all stronger that what we think we are. Don't give up, we are all rooting for you. Deb "
