I have been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. I have never smoked and was very athletic, so this is hitting me hard. I lost alot of weight in the past month, from 140lbs to 110lbs, have hardly any appetite. I am very depressed and my doc has told me my mind is blocking my treatment. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to help me out both diet and emotionally. I have looked for local support groups but being in a small town in oklahoma the closest is an hour away. I have friends but none of them have been through this so I am reaching out to anyone who can help me.

Thanks for your help!
Frank Rivera

" Frank, I grew up in a small town in Ok. I've been hearing so much about lung cancer lately in non-smokers. I saw a video by some doctors and a biochemist which really made sense about how this is happening. It's at sharethecause.com/yes and is a real eyeopener. God bless you. "

" The best advice I can give you is if you don't have an appetite try supplement drinks that are full of vitamins. They should build you up. You have to keep your strength up both physically and mentally. Have you tried medditation - it is good to help you relax and focus. "

" Hi Frank..my husband has non small cell adenocarcinoma and has never smoked also. I understsand your feelings. What we have found really helpful is reading the books of Dr. Bernie Siegel who has a wonderful and different approach to cancer..'Love Medicine and Miracles' is one, also 'Peace, Love and Healing is another..Amazon has them all. He also does c.d's with guided mediatations etc which are really helpful. You can look at his website too..just put his name in.Another good book is the Simontons 'Getting Well Again'..full of Hope also, and instructs in Visualisation which has wonderful results. Ann and David Frahm 'A Cancer Battle Plan' is wonderful..she actually got rid of her late stsge cancer using diet, and supplements and changing things in her personal life. Really uplifting..a good wholefood diet..no junk food or refined sugar in the meantime. Breathing exercises help too plus the spice turmeric which is cancer fighting. A hpd teaspoon in warm milk two or three times a day should help. Keep living your life as fully as you can, and as optimistically as you can..all this will keep you going... Hope it helps. Love, Diana. "

" FRANK,

I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO CONSIDER THINKING OF YOUR CONDITION IN A DIFFERENT WAY. INSTEAD OF THINKING ABOUT HOW DEPRESSING IT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE THIS CONDITION, TRY TO THINK OF HOW IMPORTANT IT IS RIGHT NOW TO FIND THE STRENGTH TO FIGHT THIS CONDITION. I SAY THIS BECAUSE I THINK OF MY MOTHER BEING 72 YEARS OLD AND ONLY THREE YEARS AGO SOMEHOW FOUND THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO ENDURE LUNG REMOVAL, OR WHAT THEY CALL LUNG RESECTION. THIS SURGERY WOULD BRING A STRONG HEALTHY YOUNG PERSON TO THEIR KNEES AND THEN SOME, AND SOMEHOW SHE NOT ONLY MADE IT THRU IT BUT EVEN THOU SHE CANT GET AROUND LIKE SHE USED TO SHE HAS ALWAYS KEPT A GOOD ATTITUDE AND A SMILE ON HER FACE. THE THING I WANT YOU TO REALIZE IS THAT YOU CANT LET THIS THING BEAT YOU, YOU HAVE TO REACH DEEP DEEP DOWN AND RISE ABOVE ALL THE ODDS. KINDA LIKE SHE DID..WE WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY BUT IN THE MEANTIME DO YOUR BEST TO START REACHING TO FIND YOUR STRENGTH.. "

" Hey Frank,
Jennifer511 is right. There's a drink called, "Mighty Drink" or you can just go to a store like GNC and buy a body builders powder (flavorless) and mix it into anything you want. Please don't loss weight! You need your weight through energy if your gonna do chemo and radiation. My mom had lung cancer, but she smoked for over 65 years. You have a great chance of beating this...YOU WILL BEAT THIS! Just keep the weight on!
I'm so sorry you have to go throught this my friend..I really am, but don't give up...think positive. Your healthy lifstyle is a plus.
God Bless You,
Joey "

" Chemo is totally draining. Keep a routine...even if it's the TV shows you watch that day and what kind of shows. I watched humorous stuff personally or egad! the weather channel when I got mentally stuck. Tee-hee!

What stage is your cancer? There were times my oncologist had much more hope than me. At least you are talking it out, that is a good sign. A VERY good sign...

Talk at you later......peaceful moments, my younger "soul" brother in recovering treatment.....kathy "
