Navelbine & Cisplatin for resected lung cancer

Hi there
Wanted to make sure we had all seen this trial published in Lancet Oncol 2006 as it is important to those who have had surgery for lung cancer.
1) They looked at chemotherapy in patients who had surgery for COMPLETELY resectable NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER stage IB to IIIA vs OBSERVATION
2) In patients with completely resected stage IB to IIIA lung cancer (squamous or adenocarcinoma of the lung) chemotherapy with Navelbine and Cisplatin extended survival longer than did observation alone.

" Hey Standwithafist:
The Lancet Oncology 2006;7:719-27
Title: Adjuvant vinorelbine plus cisplatin versus observation in patients with completely resected stage IB-IIIA non small cell cancer

Im not sure you will be able to get the full text without paying.
Also remember these are patients who were deemed resectable..had surgery...and had follow up chemotherapy (compared to those who did nothing after surgery)

Hope this helps
Dr O. "

" Dr. O,

Within four weeks of upper and most of lower left lobes were removed and resected the first of four infusions of Carb/taxol was given for my 1B adenocarcinoma diagnosis, ending Nov. 2006.

Obvously I can't go back and redo with Navelbine/Cisplatin. The most recent report published about Carbo/Taxol which was done long after trials was discouraging.

While they originally thought it would be most beneficial for 1B patients that now doesn't appear to be the case.

So what can a person believe, I guess you just use what was available when it was your turn at bat?

Toddy "
