how to talk to doctors

I have had a an 8mm nodule on my lower lung for a couple years now and doctors told me not to worry about it. I was in the hospital recently and a student doctor happened to read off my report from my last ct and it said i now have five spots (nodules). The ct scan was done a couple months prior to my hospital stay during an er visit for shortness of breath.
Nobody bothered to tell me the results then and when i asked about it when i was in the hospital they said "people your age dont get cancer". I am not sure what to say so they will listen to me and at least look what the hell it is. I hope it is not cancer but I want someone to figure out why I cant breathe and have these spots. At least to put my mind at ease. And if this is cancer I want them to figure it out before it gets worse. Thanks for taking the time to read this, any advice would be appriciated.

" Sleepykitty,
After spitting up some blood I had recent C-Scan and it showed 7to 10 nodules all in my right lung. Doctor's words were not incouraging. We did a broncostami(sp) and he took 10 little biopsis and told us to prepare for the worse. As a smoker for over 50yrs I just new it was going to be bad.
I have had prostate cancer and double kidney cancer in the last 4 years and that could have spread to the lung, or maybe I just developed lung cancer.
While waiting for the results of the biopsis I started to put my life in order and prepared a bucket list (stuff you need to do before you kick the bucket) It was a tramadic time for my wife, and we didn't tell the rest of the family until the results were in.
Well guess what all 10 biopsis were cancer free. There not sure what the nodules are but there sure there not cancer. My point is there is always hope and its never over until the Fat Lady sing"s
God Bless and Good Luck "

" Nn extremely small nodule like that probably cannot cause shortness of breath. Note that multiple nodules is not a typical presentation for lung cancer, and could be past pneumonoia, or some other disease process like asbestosis. Did you work in a dusty occupation. You may want to see a pulmonologist and try to figure out what it is is. "
