Is there a certain average time frame that one smokes before cancer starts? Can it be reversed? I have smoked for 15-16 years. I have also smoked my fair share of marijuana. Lots when I was young and about a joint a week now. All of your comments are appreciated.

" I dont think its that simple. My Dad smoked for 30 years or more and has lung cancer now, but his Mom has smoked for 60+ years and coulnt be in better health! There is no rhyme or reason to cancer.

Also, as far as I know, marijuanna does not cause cancer. "

" My Mom's Oncologist told me he is treating a 16 year old that has lung cancer and she had never smoked. I REALLY NEED to quit!!! My doctor told me that now that my Mom has lung cancer that I am at a high risk of getting it.
Cancer is weird though. Just like Gran said, my Mom is 61 and has lung cancer and my 72 year old step-Dad smokes like a freight train and doesn't have cancer...go figure!
Bill48, my thoughts are with you! "

" I think it depends... my mother is healthy and my father has cancer and i lost my aunt to cancer... but marijuana is just as bad as cigarettes.. maybe you should think about quitting? "

" Gee, I do not know the rhyme nor the reason, but that I do have lung cancer, I did smoke, and am know clean. I have had upper left lobectomy and 14 lymphs removed. I am Stage 3 Adenocarcinoma, very same cancer the 16 year old that never smoked has. Not sure smoking is the biggest part of the equation...I think genetics, environment make up at least 60% of the equation and smoking maybe 40%? Best of luck with your Father, please know you and he remain in my thoughts and my prayers... "
